TABLETOP TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT.

Hello friends! Ryn from the JoCo Cruise TableTop Team here with a much awaited update about the board game library. It's the JoCo Cruise 2023 game library list! Please read all of this post… 🌮 The JoCo Cruise game library contains games in the JoCo permanent collection + games that your fellow passengers are lending for the week. Its a sharing & caring community of games. The game library is open 24 hours starting at 5pm on day one, is self serve, and uses an old fashioned card check in/check out system. See FAQ in comments about this. 🚢 This list contains all of the titles in the JoCo Permanent collection. AND its a place to list games you are bringing to share to the library. This is so we don't have 12 folks bringing the same game. Use this list to add games you are bringing.

FAQ

Can I donate a game to the permanent library?
Unfortunately, due to intense importing inspections from load in to load off, we cannot keep any games in the library after the week at sea. So while we’re grateful to borrow you’re games for the week, you will need to take them home with you when the cruise is done.

Do you tape a library card to the games?
No- library cards and card pockets are attached with a rubber band that goes around your game. There may be some wear and tear to your game but we’ve found fellow cruisers to generally be very courteous when borrowing games. That being said, if you’re worried about lending your game, you don’t have to put it in the library! You can keep it in your stateroom and just bring it out to play when you’d like.

Okay- I’m bringing games on the boat- what’s next?
Pack them! Bring them in your carry on if you want to play them the first hours on the boat as you may not immediately have access to checked luggage. If you’re bringing games to lend to the library, bring those games to the first dinner and drop them off at the game library inside the dining room. The tabletop team will help you fill out a card, rubber band them and shelve them in the library. Because of shelving space and other logistics, we’ll only accept games through 10pm on the first day. Pick up your games on the last full day of sailing- there will be announcements when the time arrives!

What other fun things can we expect from the tabletop team?
Hold on to your hats because we’ll have more announcements about awesome events coming soon!

“Hey, look: our 2020 Tabletop Game Library list is available online now! Our game library, located in the Upper Main Dining Room (Deck 3), contains literally over a ton of games, all available throughout the week (after it opens at 5 pm on Day 1); it's self-serve, using an old fashioned card checkin/checkout system. The list includes all the games in the JoCo Cruise Permanent Collection—plus, its a place to list any games you are bringing that you plan to loan to the library for the week. Use this list to add any games you are bringing, or add a game to the wish list you'd love for someone to bring.

Please note: we CANNOT except any games on board to add to the permanent collection. Every game we load on the boat goes through INTENSE paperwork and importing inspection, and we can have ZERO more games than we loaded in. If you loan a game to the library this year, please reclaim it at the end of the week.”

[Ding Dong!] Jenn here from the JoCo Tabletop Team to share the good news about the JoCo game library title list for 2019.

Here is the 2019 JoCo Game Library List.
PLEASE ENTER any titles you are bringing to share to the library for the week. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-CjA42zcuWIB1CXWA9lRD8-vB4Pm_zIadcbo60Qmz0g/edit#gid=0

How does the JoCo game library work? We take over a section of the dining room and transform it into a massive game lending library with a section to post about game meet ups/seeking players. The library is a combination of JoCo permanent titles and games that Sea Monkey(Δ)s pack, bring on board, and share to the library for the week. Games are labeled and tracked by an old fashioned card check out system. This lets everyone know where games are and who has them. Here are The Doubleclicks to show you how it all works https://youtu.be/51fUVm6nu0U

We make a list for a several reasons. One, to share so that everyone can see what is in the permanent library before coming and get excited. Secondly, if you are sharing games to the library adding them to this list lets folks know to pack and share titles that might not be listed and avoid that one year we had 15 copies of Exploding Kittens ( that said, multiple copies of hot titles are a good thing AHEM- AZUL).

Thanks everyone! Jenn & The Tabletop Team

P.S: D&D night is happening- please stay tuned for more information on sign ups in the coming weeks. If you signed up to be a DM you will get an email soon!

[ Door bell ring] Hi! Can I tell you the good news about playing board games with awesome people IN THE BEAUTIFUL CARIBBEAN?

HI, I’m Jennifer Ellis. I have the pleasure of leading all of the official tabletop game programming & the cardboard concierge team for JoCo Cruise 2019 as well as the past few cruises.

Whether you’ve never been on JoCo and you’re curious about onboard game offerings & events or are a veteran of the Monkey(Δ) seas THIS POST IS FOR YOU!

I want to give all of you an early peek into what we’re planning and when to expect further information

  1. We organize a big board game lending library that’s open 24 hours a day. We also encourage Sea Monkey(Δ)s to bring games to share to the library for the week. We use an old fashioned library check out system. An updated list of titles that are part of the permanent game library will be shared by me here and other official channels by the end of December so you can start salivating.
The game library also has tools to help you organize & find players in the analog world of a ship and suggestions on the best places to play based on time of day.
  2. There’s a Cardboard Concierge Team: They run official board game events and happenings around the ship as well as office hours in the game library to help recommend the latest titles and hidden jems. I’ll do a post introducing them early in the new year. We can’t wait to play games with you!
  3. Learn to play events, mega games, and more: The official games schedule is filled with opportunities to learn a new game no matter what your experience or appetite is for tabletop. We also run events only possible on JoCo. The official schedule comes out like a long time from now…but it’s gonna be awesome!

Can we just fast forward a few months?

Thanks everyone!

Jenn

2018

From the 2018 Guidebook:

GAMING AND THE GAME LIBRARY

WANT TO LEARN AND PLAY GAMES?

  • A list of all participatory gaming events will be posted daily outside of the Game Library (including Learn-to-Play demonstrations hosted by some of our sponsors and others)
  • Easel pads—near the Game Library—let players find and organize play events and times
  • The daily newsletter will have a daily schedule, including all gaming events

GAME LIBRARY IN THE UPPER MAIN DINING ROOM

The JoCo Cruise Tabletop Game Library is in the Upper Main Dining Room (Deck 3, Aft), just to the left as you enter (starboard side). It will be available 24/7, and includes many games donated to JoCo Cruise by Our Generous Sponsors, as well as Steve Paap. (May Neptune protect them and further their good works. Amen.)

Sea Monkey(Δ)s may also share their own games during the week via the Game Library, via a simple “library style” check in/out system, so we can all share with confidence in 2018. Instructions for loaning your game to the Game Library are posted by the Game Library. (It’s super-simple.)

Please take care of any game you play as if it were your own. If you abuse your own games, take care of others’ games as if you weren’t a monster.

WHERE AND WHEN TO PLAY TABLETOP GAMES

Upper and Lower Main Dining Room (Decks 2 & 3, Aft)

This is the “main” area for gaming. Tables will be available each day until around 3:30pm (when the dining room staff needs to reset the room for dinner), and again after approximately 11pm (once the staff has reset the room after the late dinner seating). That said, some tables on Deck 3 immediately adjacent to the Game Library on the starboard side will be available for gaming 24/7—even while the rest of the Main Dining Room is being served dinner (these tables will NOT be served food!)

NOTE: Some sections of the Upper Dining Room (Deck 3) of the Dining Room may be reserved at certain times for specialty lunches and/or special Gaming Events. Also, a portion of the Lower Dining Room will be reserved for serving break - fast and lunch during the appropriate hours. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of room for gaming.

Lido Market (Deck 9, Mid)

There are plenty of tables (and nearby food!) in the Lido Market. We especially recommend this space if you want to game while the ship’s staff clear the dining room after the late dinner seating and restore it to proper Gaming Configuration™.

Pretty Much Everywhere Else

As stated above, we control the whole ship; so anywhere you care to set up and play—except for the ship’s radar display—go for it!

NOTE: If there is an Official Event or a Shadow Cruise event scheduled in any given space, that event will receive precedence for seating /table space. Thanks for cooperating!

NEW FOR 2018: CARDBOARD CONCIERGE

Not sure what game to play? We’ve got you covered. Press your luck on the Gametron 9000™. If that’s not enough, ask a friendly Cardboard Concierge in the game library during posted hours to help you find the perfect game to suit your mood and taste.
