Established Filipino American film and voice actor Dante Basco is a well-known figure in the industry and has received recognition for his roles as Rufio in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated Hook and as Prince Zuko in Emmy Award-winning animation Avatar: The Last Airbender.
California-born Basco is a sheer force of talent, with a career spanning four decades and over one hundred roles, both on-screen and in animations. Over the years, Basco has appeared in numerous animated productions, most famously lending his voice to Prince Zuko in the cult hit Avatar: The Last Airbender and the titular character in Disney Channel’s American Dragon: Jake Long. Other credits include A Goofy Movie, 500 Nations, The Proud Family, Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Zevo-3, Generator Rex, Ultimate Spider-Man, Johnny Bravo, Star Wars: Rebels, Victor & Valentino and Camp Camp.
Decades later, Basco’s breakout performance as the iconic Rufio, leader of the Lost Boys, in Hook is still being talked about by fans and critics alike. Other on-screen credits include The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Moesha, Undressed, But I’m a Cheerleader, Entourage, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, A Million Little Things, Rag Doll and Emmy-winning Artificial. As a voice actor, Basco’s voice can be heard in several video game series, including Final Fantasy, Avatar, Call of Juarez and Skate.
A champion for diversity and representation in Hollywood, Basco picked up several awards for Hang Loose, a dramedy he co-penned with friends and which primarily stars Asian American actors. With multiple feature films currently in production, Basco has big plans for the future.
