Booking and Cabin Placement Preferences - One More Reminder

Just a quick check-in to remind anyone who has cabin placement requests they haven't submitted yet to please log into your User Account and enter them under the “Booking Preferences” tab ASAP. Technically, we've passed the May 15th deadline noted in our previous email, but we're extending that through this Friday (May 20th) as a courtesy to any of you last-minute or oops-I-totally-forgot-to-do-that types out there.
https://book.jococruise.com/2023/#/account/
https://mailchi.mp/975578409f2b/cabin-placement-preferences-and-some-2022-stats

Everyone—not just the “placement preferences” folks—should also take a moment to indicate your preferences, if you have any, for bed placement (separate or combined) and dinner seating (early or late). These options can be found in the “Booking Preferences” tab noted above.

Other Helpful Links in Your User Account

Speaking of your User Account, you may also notice the “Helpful Links” section. Besides the link to our merch store (which is pretty self-explanatory), here's what those other links currently listed are all about:
https://store.dftba.com/collections/joco-cruise

Club SRO

JoCo Cruise offers a program called Club SRO (“Standing Room Only”), which will be available to a limited number of guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Club SRO is designed for JoCo Cruise guests who don't need or want to attend the onboard main concerts (e.g., crowd-averse folks, nerd-adjacent spouses, sixteen-hour-a-day dungeon masters, etc.). People who join Club SRO waive their guaranteed seating at the evening main concerts in the ship's World Stage theater, in exchange for a credit to their onboard stateroom accounts. Full details can be found in our FAQ's Club SRO section.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-club-sro

If you are interested in signing up for Club SRO on JoCo Cruise 2023, please fill out our online “I Want to Join Club SRO” application. Separate applications must be submitted for each individual seeking to join Club SRO.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfcFqrBmxGX7a7QCNcIcoksNJ5xX56ms0Obylvw8Qe9DmsKGA/viewform

NOTE: completing this form DOES NOT guarantee membership in Club SRO; you will be contacted by the Home Office regarding your Club SRO status, and with additional information as applicable. Again, numbers are limited; first-come, first-served.

Salutations / Pronouns

The Nieuw Amsterdam defaults to using “Mr.“ or “Ms.” when addressing guests in written communication, based on the gender listed on one's travel documents. If you prefer the ship use a different salutation from the above to address you in correspondence, please fill out our Salutation Change Request form.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf43jHxq9DVFVGwz1ITIiQ6r4Wh3FMWjI3Jtkh9Dsw5DPRdMA/viewform

Making these changes is a manual process for JoCo Cruise and the ship. PLEASE do not submit spurious, “joke” or vanity requests to change prefix.

Shadow TV

Stateroom TVs on the Nieuw Amsterdam include on-demand programming, allowing us to make available rebroadcasts of main stage performances and events, some movies and shows of our choosing, and even pictures of cats.

And as with previous years, one of these on-demand “channels” will be dedicated to passenger-created content—“Shadow TV”. Have you made something you think the other attendees would enjoy watching? Use the Shadow TV Channel Content Submission Form to submit original content for broadcast on board.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe42DMEqI8xCDk6FlsjV6QLekK8qhbh3DDAHeViL-4cYPLbxA/viewform

IMPORTANT: You MUST control all rights to all content (audio and video) in your submission. Don’t submit, say, a “Weird Al” video, or an original video with someone else’s music on the soundtrack.

Please use the above form to submit all media via a download/cloud storage service (Google Drive, Dropbox, box.com, etc.), DO NOT email it directly. No Flash video, and please no obscure/esoteric video formats. No links to YouTube videos, please; all submissions must be downloadable.

The Management will review all submissions and reserves the right to approve or reject submissions for any reason, including (but not limited to) copyright violations and/or violations of the JoCo Cruise Code of Conduct.

[April 19, 2022] Placement Requests Reminder

Cabin Placement Requests

If you have specific cabin placement requests for your 2023 booking and you haven't submitted them yet, we ask that you please do so ASAP. Because JoCo Cruise is already over 90% sold out, we'll soon be beginning the (slow, laborious, manual) process of assigning bookings to specific staterooms.

As such, we want to make sure everyone who's got specific cabin placement requests (e.g. “close to/far from elevators,” “towards the front/back/middle of the ship,” etc.) have those requests properly considered during this process.

So once again, IF YOU HAVE SPECIFIC CABIN PLACEMENT REQUESTS and you haven't done so yet, please do the following by May 15th:

  • Log into your JoCo Cruise User Account
    https://book.jococruise.com/2023/#/account/
  • Navigate to the “Booking Preferences” tab
  • Fill out the “Stateroom Placement” checkboxes as applicable
  • If you have other placement requests not covered under those checkboxes, fill out the “Additional Stateroom Placement Requests” field

You can (and should) also add your bed placement and dinner seating preferences at this time. But even if you don't know those preferences yet, please make sure to get in your cabin placement requests sooner rather than later.

[March 22, 2022] JoCo Cruise 2023 Booking is Now Open!

JoCo Cruise 2023
March 5-12, 2023
Sailing on Holland America's ms Nieuw Amsterdam
From Fort Lauderdale, FL to San Juan, Tortola, and Half Moon Cay

Public Booking is Now Open!

Public booking for JoCo Cruise 2023 is happening right now. This very second! Many cabin types have already sold out (passengers on JoCo Cruise 2022 had the opportunity to book while onboard, and boy they sure did), and we fully expect the 2023 event to sell out completely in relatively short order.

You can review all available cabin types, prices, available discounts, and deposit schedules on our Pricing Page. Or if you already know what you want, smack that booking button below!
https://jococruise.com/2023pricing/

https://book.jococruise.com/2023/#/book/

Forms of Payment

As was the case with JoCo Cruise 2022, we're unable to process credit cards or PayPal transactions at this time. Payments may be made for 2023 via ACH transfer. The ACH transfer process withdraws funds from an existing bank account rather than placing a charge against a credit card account. In this regard, an ACH transfer works somewhat like a wire transfer, but is less complicated and most banks won’t charge any fee for it—for those that do, it’s less expensive than wire transfer fees. (If you wish, you can think of the process as similar to a Venmo transaction.) You will need your login information for your bank account for this process. (The login is handled securely and directly within the JoCo Cruise booking/payment process, via Plaid.)
https://plaid.com/

Our system will support ACH transfers from most major US-based financial institutions, as well as many smaller banks and credit unions (over 2,000 in total). If you don't have a US-based bank account, or you find that your particular US financial institution is not supported by Plaid, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included in the JoCo Cruise 2023 cruise price, but we strongly suggest purchasing it through a third party. Each year there have been passengers who have needed to cancel for a wide variety of reasons (including adverse weather, cabinmates backing out, and unforeseen financial hardship; many people in 2022 experienced weather-related flight delays post-cruise), so we highly recommend it. For complete peace of mind, you may wish to consider a policy that allows “Cancel for Any Reason” coverage.

One travel insurance source we recommend is Yonder, which aggregates plans from many providers.
https://www.insureyonder.com/affiliate/JoCoCruise

While travel insurance can be purchased just about any time, the most flexible plans generally must be purchased within 14 days of your initial booking; some policies, particularly “Cancel for Any Reason” policies, require purchase within one day of booking in order to be covered for pre-existing conditions.

If you use our link to Yonder, you can select the United States as your destination; if you’ve used the above link, on the next screen it’ll automatically select “Cruise” for your type of trip further in the quote process.)

Club SRO

We're once again offering Club SRO on JoCo Cruise 2022, for those passengers who are willing to forego guaranteed seats at the nightly Main Concerts in return for a $125 credit to their onboard account. Complete info about Club SRO can be found in our FAQ. Availability is limited.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#sro

You'll be prompted during the booking process to select the option to be considered for Club SRO. If you wish to join after having completed booking, you can fill out the JoCo Cruise 2023 “I Want to Join Club SRO” Application.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfcFqrBmxGX7a7QCNcIcoksNJ5xX56ms0Obylvw8Qe9DmsKGA/viewform

Stateroom Placement Requests

If you plan to have stateroom placement requests (e.g., a specific cabin number, deck, or general location, etc.), please see our FAQ item regarding placement requests. This will help familiarize you with the potential issues involved, and will greatly assist you when it comes time to book your cabin and make your requests.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#can-i-make-stateroom-placement

(NOTE: placement requests are no longer a part of the booking process as in earlier years, but instead are submitted via your User Account once your booking is completed. If you email us your placement requests, we will just shrug and point back at this paragraph.)

[March 18, 2022] Onboard Booking

Editor's note: This email was sent to passengers that took advantage of booking the 2023 cruise while onboard the 2022 cruise.

We're back! Like many of you, we encountered some…difficulties returning home earlier this week (thanks, bomb cyclone!). But THO is officially back and up and running. We appreciate your patience as we've gotten the atomic batteries to power and turbines to speed again.

Okay then…

Completing Your JoCo Cruise 2023 Booking by Friday, March 25th

If you're receiving this email, you completed an JoCo Cruise 2023 Onboard Booking form while aboard JoCo Cruise 2022. (Thanks for that!) As such, you've got a tentative hold on a cabin for JoCo Cruise 2023. Here's what you need to do to complete the process and officially have your booking assigned to you…

1. Log in to your JoCo Cruise User Account

Please log into your User Account and confirm that the details of your booking match your expectations. As noted on the form, we've done our best to grant everyone's first choice of cabin type, but in some cases where your initial choice was not available, we've had to assign a second or third choice.
https://book.jococruise.com/2023/#/account/

Your JoCo Cruise 2023 booking number is «BookingID» Cabin type: «CabinClass» «CabinDesc» Number of guests: «NumGuests»

2. Submit your initial payment

Once you're logged in, you'll see a “Balance and Payments Summary” section on the main page of your User Account. If you go click on the “View Your Balance Details” button there, or if you select the “Billing & Payments” tab at the top, you'll see more details regarding your booking:

  • Booking Charges (which lists the retail price of your booking as well as any applicable discounts)
  • Payments (which lists any payments already made to your booking)
  • Deposit Schedule (which lists when deposits will be due, and indicates any payments currently due)
  • Make a Payment (see below)

In the “Make a Payment” section, you must pay at least the minimum deposit currently due. In order to secure your JoCo Cruise 2023 booking, your payment must be made no later than Friday, March 25, 2022. After that date, if no deposit has been made and you have not yet contacted us, you will be in danger of losing your current booking.

You may pay any amount above the minimum deposit due if you wish, including paying your balance in full. If you choose the Pay in Full option for your initial deposit, you'll receive an additional 3% discount off the cost of your booking (after all applicable discounts have been applied). NOTE: if you wish to receive this discount, you must pay your balance in full with your initial payment; you can't pay a portion initially and then pay the balance at a later time.

As was the case with JoCo Cruise 2022, we're unable to process credit cards or PayPal transactions at this time. Payments may be made via ACH transfer.

Our system will support ACH transfers from most major US-based financial institutions, as well as many smaller banks and credit unions (over 2,000 in total). If you don't have a US-based bank account, or you find that your particular US financial institution is not supported by Plaid, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

We thank you again for being a part of JoCo Cruise. If you have any issues regarding processing your initial payment, please email booking@jococruise.com ASAP.

One last note: if you booked onboard but didn't get your 2023 Onboard Booking pin (because you all booked so many cabins, you blew past our projections and we ran out of pins!), we'll be getting in touch with you to remedy that situation…Soon™.

[March 16, 2022] Post-Cruise Wrap-up and Survey

We Did It!

Well, it took us two years, but we finally made it back on an actual ship again! We can't thank you all enough for helping make this year's JoCo Cruise such a fun, positive and welcoming event for everyone involved. From the shows and panels to the Shadow Cruise events and dance parties and meetups, and to the general vibe present all over the ship, we could not have been happier with how everything turned out. We are also grateful to everyone for minding the safety protocols and being so considerate for everyone's safety and comfort.

In short: thank you thank you thank you.

Post-cruise Survey

We ask that you please take the time to fill out our post-cruise feedback survey. Besides the cruise itself, it's the most important thing we do each year, because it's through your collective thoughts and feedback on the event that can we effectively work to improve it.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JoCoCruise2022survey

We know that this survey isn't short. But every section is important, and we greatly appreciate your taking the time to fill it out. You also don't have to complete it in one sitting; if you accept cookies from surveymonkey.com, returning to the above link should take you directly to the page following your last completed page.

Because we'd like our results to be as complete as possible, please be sure to share this survey URL with everyone in your booking, whether or not they have a JoCo Cruise User Account. Also feel free to share it with friends who weren't on JoCo Cruise 2022; there are sections relevant to them as well.

See you in March of 2023!

[March 3, 2022] Twit-Arr Code - Just for You!

Twit-arr

Twit-arr is a web-based JoCo Cruise-specific messaging, calendaring, and social service developed and provided by JoCo Cruisers like you. It works over the ship's network, and you don't need to purchase Internet access to use it. If you wish, once you're onboard JoCo Cruise, you may create an account and use Twit-arr. (Your code won't work before then.)

You can find a PDF with a general overview and full instructions for Twit-arr at https://bit.ly/2022Twitarr. But the short version: it's JoCo Cruise-specific social media that doesn't require the Internet. Many folks use it to varying degrees during the week, but you're not obligated to.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cUYRWeW1OUHAMPKtej-WPf9fc9L6xdJL/view

Here is a unique key for YOU PERSONALLY for creating a Twit-arr account (again, only once you're onboard; your code won't work before then):

Twit-arr key for First Last: <code>

NOTE: This code is unique to YOU. Codes may be used to create one account ONLY. If you forget your code or have other code related questions, visit the JoCo Cruise Info Desk onboard during its normal hours of operation.

Yo ho ho,

[March 2, 2022] Schedule and Boarding Info, A Note Re: Masking, and Some Other Last-Minute Notes and Reminders

Schedule Reminder

Reminder: you can always find the complete JoCo Cruise 2022 schedule at https://jococruise2022.sched.com. You'll be able to access this schedule while on board—because our schedule page is “whitelisted” on the ship's network, you won't need to pay for Internet access to view the schedule page. Additionally, a daily schedule will be delivered to your stateroom each day, and printed schedules can be found throughout the ship. So you're never far away from knowing what's going on!

NOTE: all events in Sched are on “Ship Time,” which technically is the time the captain decides the time will be aboard the ship. In practice, ship time generally (but not always) reflects the time zone of any given port of call. As such, there will be two time changes onboard next week, corresponding with our port stop in St. Croix:

  • At 2 am on Tue. Mar. 9 (i.e., very late on Monday night), set your clocks forward one hour to 3 am
  • At 2 am on Wed. Mar. 10 (i.e., very late on Tuesday night), set your clocks back one hour to 1 am

IMPORTANT NOTE: because Sched is built for events that stay in one place and don't travel through time zones, errors and time mismatches for some events may occur if you import events from Sched into an outside calendar/app. Always refer to our Sched page or the onboard schedules for the definitive, correct times for all events.

Boarding Specifics

The following is the most updated information we have regarding the boarding process on March 5th:

ONLINE CHECK-IN, BOARDING PASSES AND CHECK-IN TIMES

If you've already checked in online, by this point you should have received an assigned check-in time from HAL. This time will appear on your Boarding Pass, which you can find either via the Navigator mobile app or by logging into your HAL account online. Please arrive at your assigned time or later; if you arrive early, you will not be allowed access and will have to wait around outside. (In Florida. Were it's usually hot, often humid, and sometimes raining.)

Also, as of this morning, you can complete HAL's required Health Assessment, either via your HAL account online (via the Online Check-in link) or via the Navigator app.

Please note: your assigned check-in time will not be finalized until your Health Assessment form is complete, and may be subject to change. Please double-check your assigned check-in time before traveling to the cruiseport.

Final note re: Check-in and Boarding Passes: HAL asks that everyone please complete your Check-in process and Health Assessment form online ahead of time, as it will make your experience at the terminal as efficient as possible. In the worst case, however, don't panic; the worst thing that will happen is that you have to complete the process manually in the terminal. You won't be denied boarding because you didn't check-in online. That said, it's very, very important that the first and last names of everyone in your booking exactly match the names on their passport (or other boarding identification); please make sure to confirm this information now. (Middle names matches are not necessary for the boarding process.)

Yes, we know the HAL site and Navigator app can be wonky and occasionally frustrating. But yes, we assure you that you'll eventually be able to get done what you need to do and get on board.

AT THE TERMINAL

Our ship will be at Terminal 26 in Port Everglades. (Have your passport/travel ID handy for when your vehicle reaches the main Port Everglades security gates.) When you arrive, you can check any baggage you wish to with the porters out front of Terminal 26.

All passengers will then proceed to Terminal 21 for your additional “day-of” COVID testing. (To be clear, this is different from the medically observed test you're required to take within two days of departure; this is a second, on-site test that HAL allows for charters like ours, and is at no cost to you.) Signage and JoCo Cruise crew will be on hand to help direct you to the proper entrance. The walk from door to door is roughly 1/10th of a mile; shuttle service will be available for those who require assistance. At that terminal, you'll present your proof of vaccination and be administered a COVID rapid test by medical staff. You'll wait in groups in the Terminal 21 waiting area until your group is cleared for the check-in process. (HAL requests no “intermingling” between these groups during this wait time; we know you're all excited to see each other again—so are we!—but please no “running across the room to hug each other and catch up” while awaiting the test results.)

From here, you'll proceed back to Terminal 26 for security screening and to complete the check-in process. Once that process is complete, you'll proceed to JoCo Cruise staff to receive your badge and lanyard, information booklets, and your Special* New JoCo Cruise Tote Bag that we've made for everyone! (Also, as desired, “Friendshipping” buttons and pronoun stickers for your badge).

In order to help the badge-and-lanyard process scoot along faster, please try to remember your team/dinner seating. Reminder: your booking is assigned to the Red/Gold Team (Early/Late).

From that point, can proceed to board the Nieuw Amsterdam. Hooray!

When you arrive at your stateroom after boarding, your stateroom keycards will be in an envelope just outside your door. Inside your stateroom, elegantly laid out on your bed will be the printed version of the Day 1 JoCo Cruise events schedule and instructions for using Twit-arr. (Yes, elegantly.)

*Your tote bag isn't “special” because it's made of Space Age polymer or that it's bigger on the inside or anything like that; it's special because we made them just for you, with love.

Extension Cords for CPAP Machines

If you are bringing a CPAP machine, per HAL's reply to your Special Requirements form submission, please bring your own extension cord. The ship has a very limited supply of extension cords onboard, and the “standard US” 110-volt power outlet in most cabins* is across the room from the beds.

IMPORTANT: while you are allowed to bring extension cords onboard, you cannot bring surge protectors for in-cabin use. Please be sure to bring the correct type of power cord.

*If you are staying in a suite, an extension cord may not be necessary; suites are configured with a 110-volt outlet next to the beds.

A Note about Masking

As we've outlined in our earlier email, JoCo Cruise's masking policy requires that masks be worn indoors, except in your stateroom or when eating or drinking. Masks are not required outdoors except in crowded areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.
https://mailchi.mp/9e481162a8d7/joco-cruise-2022-schedule-mask-policy-confab

Of course, this policy can’t cover every single eventuality, and you may encounter occasional “gray area” situations. (“How crowded is ‘too crowded’ at this outdoor party/event?” etc.) In general, we ask that everyone please be considerate of others’ comfort levels, treat fellow guests with civility and respect, and use their best judgment.

A few guidelines/examples:

  • During Main Concert events (and similarly crowded events), please maintain “Broadway show rules:” if you have a drink, pull your mask down/aside to sip, and then pull it back on (as opposed to “pull it off your head while you nurse your drink for fifteen minutes”).
  • At dinner, please observe “restaurant rules:” while seated at your table and eating/drinking, being maskless is fine, but if you get up to go to the restroom or leave and will be walking past others, please put a mask back on.
  • At bars, please maintain “restaurant rules” when seated at its tables. When at the bar, please use your best judgment and consider “Broadway show rules” in more crowded situations.

We know that everyone is approaching this event with different degrees of risk tolerance, anxiety and/or vulnerability. And we thank you in advance for your consideration as we all work together to re-learn how to be in group settings, attend concerts and events, and generally remember how to Boat.

Notes from the Nieuw Amsterdam

Several folks from the Home Office are currently sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam to drop off and set up a bunch of our supplies, meet with the ship's department heads, go over our schedule with them and so forth. They report that there's many crew members who've sailed with us before and are very excited to see us again! (Some have costumes ready for Cosplay Day!) They've also sent along a few notes/suggestions/reminders:

  • If you're planning to purchase Internet access onboard, please remember to turn off your automatic backups and app/software updates; this will be a quick and easy way to free up bandwidth for yourself and everyone else.
  • We're told that specialty dining reservations (at the ship's various specialty restaurants) are moving briskly. While you can no longer make reservations online for specialty restaurant dining (HAL closes online reservations 3 days prior to boarding), you can make those reservations once on board—but they suggest you don't wait too long to do so.
  • Off-menu vegan soups and other vegan options may be available during dinner in the Main Dining Room. If you're interested in those options, ask your server what's available that evening.
  • HAL has asked us to specifically remind everyone of their list of prohibited items from their FAQ. It's a lengthy and important list, and it's occasionally amusing to read. It includes the phrase “knuckle-dusters!” Don't bring hookahs or canoes! No Heelys, all you children in 2003-2008! And we would absolutely love to know the incident or series of incidents that led to them deciding to add “catapults” to the list.

While on board, current versions of the schedule can be found:

  • on the Sched page online (you DO NOT need to purchase onboard Internet access to view the Sched page; just connect to the ship's network)
  • in the daily printed schedule delivered to your stateroom
  • on printed and digital schedule signs posted throughout the ship
  • via the on-demand menu of your in-stateroom TV
  • deep inside your heart (it was there all along!)

Mask Policy

As some of you may have seen, Holland America recently updated their mask policy for their retail sailings; starting March 1, masks are recommended on board but not required, except in certain venues.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well.html

To be clear: JoCo Cruise 2022's existing masking policy will remain in effect. Masks will be required in all indoor areas, except while in your stateroom, and when eating or drinking. Masks are not required in outdoor spaces, unless in crowded areas where social distancing cannot be maintained.

Note: the Lido Pool Area (Deck 9, Midship) will be considered an “outdoor area” except when inclement weather requires the retractable roof be closed for an extended period of time.

Lineup Addition: CONFAB

We'd like to welcome CONFAB to the JoCo Cruise 2022 lineup. Who or what is CONFAB? A fair question. From their bio:
https://jococruise.com/confab/

A sparkling miasma of some of NYC’s most glamorous performers, CONFAB brings the “OMG, WTF” to the party. We are a collective of diverse dancers, burlesque, drag, and performance artists, brought together with the sole intention of turning it up and turning it out. This wild family of nightlife believes that the dance floor is for everyone, a space to be your best self and connect, and we want to share it with you!

CONFAB will be joining a number of our dance/party events as party hosts/“vibe ambassadors.”

Our CONFAB party hosts:

  • Jack Barrow
  • C’était BonTemps
  • Dominant Jeane
  • Henry Foxy
  • God Complex
  • Ava Lanche
  • New York Cat
  • Pixel the Drag Jester

Dinners Onboard

A quick reminder/refresher as to how dinner seatings work onboard, for those who are new and those who just love reminders:

Most evenings, there's an early dinner seating at 5 pm (if you're on the Red Team) and a late seating at 7:30 pm (if you're on the Gold Team). Exceptions:

  • On Day 1 (Saturday), the dinners are at 5:30 pm and 8 pm, respectively (so you don't miss the 5 pm sail-away)
  • On Day 4 (Tuesday), since we're in St. Croix until 8 pm, dinner that evening is “As You Wish” dining; you can show up anytime between 5:30 pm and 9 pm for dinner. (The ship does request that if you're coming to the main dining room that night, please try to roughly correspond with your usual dining time, so that the staff and kitchen don't get swarmed all at once.)

At dinner, there are no assigned tables; you can sit anywhere you wish each night (with a couple exceptions, see below). Feel free to mix things up and meet new people, if you like. If you're looking for new people to join you, you can grab one of the “Hi” Die table signs from the game library area on deck 3 to indicate you welcome folks to join your table.

If you're really unsure of where to start, several tables are set aside for “hosted seating” each night; experienced, friendly JoCo Cruisers will act as “hosts” for a friendly (but low-key) gathering, answer any questions new folks might have, and generally make for a congenial, relaxing and welcoming meal. These will be available each evening at table 218 in the Lower Main Dining Room and at tables 62 and 64 in the Upper Main Dining Room. (Dining room staff can direct you.) No need to reserve anything, just show up!

  • There are a limited number of fixed seating tables during each dinner; these were requested by people who preferred to have the same assigned table each night for various reasons. These tables will be indicated with table tents; please avoid using these tables if not assigned to them.
  • There is also an area reserved for JoCo Cruise crew only in the rear port area of the Upper Main Dining Room (“back right” if you're looking from the entrance) during the late dinner seating. This area will be marked with signage.

Gender-inclusive Restrooms

This year, we’ve designated many of the public restrooms on board as gender-inclusive. All-gender restrooms are open to users of any gender identity or expression; gender-specific restrooms may be used according to the gender with which the user identifies. Door signs will indicate the types of facilities available inside (toilets and/or urinals). In the example to the left, this restroom would be all-gender, accessible, and contains both urinals and lockable-stall toilets.

This map (which will also be in the JoCo Cruise booklet you'll receive at the terminal) shows the locations of all our gender-inclusive and gender-specific public restrooms. Each restroom will also have a map on the outside door to all nearby restrooms. We’ve done our best to make it so that, on the main “public” decks (1-3, 9-11), you’re never more than one deck and/or half the ship away from your desired type of restroom.

Silent Dance Parties

One of our new wrinkles this year: we're holding several “silent dance parties.” We've rented a whole heap of wireless headsets that you can use at the event and be part of the select gang of folks who'll be the only ones who can hear the music. Come on and join in on the quiet fun on Day 2 (Sunday) and Day 6 (Thursday) in B.B. King's! See the schedule for full details.

(Please return all headsets when leaving the event; they will be sanitized between events.)

Karaoke Song List

As usual, there will be karaoke events on board this year. And we're once again using the massive song library of our friend Joel Stitzel (thanks, Joel!), and the events will once again be hosted by JoCo Cruiser Randy Parcel (hi again, Randy!).
http://www.infernalsingalongmachine.com/

We will have several physical copies of the complete list available, it's a BIG book—25,939 songs' worth!—so we're also making it available for you to download. If you're interested in doing karaoke this year, we strongly recommend you grab the song list now.

You can connect to and copy this Google Sheet version of the list. You can also go to “File - Download As” to download it in various formats (PDF, Excel file, etc.).
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dGwhNuIfDE0CwYOCOVTDiA3u5aUdxSC39tP_Fq0DEGA/edit#gid=1816196922

Speaking of karaoke, don't miss the Celebrity Karaoke Sing-along event on Day 5 (Wed.) in the World Stage theater; it's gonna be something special.

Other Important Reminders

  • Complete the HAL Online Check-in process by Wednesday, March 2nd https://book2.hollandamerica.com/olci-iu/#/findBooking
  • Double-check that your passport/travel identification is current
  • Make sure you have your COVID test scheduled/planned for within 2 days of departure

[February 16, 2022] Booking Change Deadlines; New Cruiser Handbook; Day 1 Logistics

Deadline for Booking Changes

REMINDER: per our previous email, the deadline for contacting us regarding underlying medical conditions associated with higher risk for severe COVID-19 is Friday, February 18th.
https://mailchi.mp/00a02199fdc2/01312022

Additionally, the deadline for making any non-emergency changes to your booking—including adding or removing guests, naming invited or TBA guests, and upgrading or changing your cabin—is Monday, February 21st. (This deadline is necessary to ensure there's enough time to update your cabin/guests to the manifest so that everyone is correctly assigned a HAL Booking Number.) If you are still interested in upgrading your cabin after that deadline, you can visit the ship's Guest Services desk (Deck 1, Midship) once onboard JoCo Cruise.

New Attendee Handbook

If you're new to JoCo Cruise (or just could use a quick refresher), we have a convenient New Attendee Handbook you may find useful. Developed with longtime JoCo Cruiser Nicole Dieker, this online guide is chock full of info and tips for those new to JoCo Cruise (or cruising in general).
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oQDz3DfJN-o_4ouHU8HFAaa0cZVRKHbGadT3D63HfUs/edit#

Day 1 Logistics

SOON™ is now EXTREMELY SOON™! So we wanted to give you a basic walkthrough of the boarding process and important Day 1 events, especially since some things have changed since 2020…

Don't Be Late

However you are getting to Port Everglades on Saturday, Mar. 5th—taxi, hotel shuttle, transporter—HAL requires all passengers to be on board 90 minutes before departure, which means by 3:30 pm. “On board” means “checked in and physically on the ship.” Please don’t dawdle.
https://www.porteverglades.net/

Boarding Documents and Passports

Make sure you have your passport (or other approved travel identification) for boarding. You should also have checked in online, like we've mentioned repeatedly. Online check-in must be completed no fewer than 72 hours before departure. Being checked in, you should have your boarding documents ready—either your Express Docs via HAL's Navigator app, or your printed Boarding Pass. If you forget your Boarding Passes or don't check-in online, you won't get refused entry; you'll just have to fill out the paperwork manually at the terminal, which is no fun.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/faq.cruise-preparation.do-i-need-a-passport.html
https://book2.hollandamerica.com/olci-iu/#/findBooking

When Can I Board?

This year, as part of HAL's COVID safety procedures, all passengers are issued check-in times on Embarkation Day. (They'll appear on your Boarding Documents, but they may not have been assigned yet.) PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE AT THE CRUISE TERMINAL PRIOR TO YOUR CHECK-IN TIME; the terminal staff will not let you check-in before your assigned time. (You can arrive after your check-in time if necessary, such as if your travel is delayed.)

NOTE: your assigned check-in time may change prior to Embarkation Day; please pay attention to any notices you receive from HAL and triple check your check-in time prior to heading to the cruiseport.

Checking In and Getting Your Stuff

At the terminal, after checking any baggage you wish with the luggage porters out front, you'll go through COVID testing, security scanning (similar to any airport), and completing your check-in process with the terminal staff. For these processes, make sure you have the following:

  • Your passport (or other travel documentation)
  • Proof of vaccination (physical card or digital/QR code)
  • Your HAL boarding documents—either your digital Express Docs (via the HAL Navigator app) or physically printed Boarding Pass

Once through the above, you'll find JoCo Cruise personnel who'll give you your badge and Red Team/Gold Team/Club SRO lanyard. Your badge and lanyard will serve as your “pass” to attend the nightly main concert, and also as your ID badge. (There'll be a table with Sharpies for adding your name if you wish to.) Finally, you're ready to hop on board!

Once Aboard

Your stateroom should be ready when you board; your stateroom keycard will be in an envelope just outside your door. (This is different from previous years.) You'll be using this keycard for all purchases while onboard—at bars and restaurants, in the onboard shops, etc.—and you'll need it to get off and back aboard the ship at our ports of call. If you lose it, or if it stops working, go to the ship's Guest Services desk (Deck 1, Midship).

Safety Check-in

You can find your muster station number on your stateroom keycard. In previous years, everyone had to attend a mandatory safety drill all at the same time at their respective muster stations. In 2022, everyone gets to view a video about the ship's safety procedures (either via HAL's Navigator app, or on your stateroom TV), and check in at your muster station anytime prior to 3:30 pm.

Orientation

The Management will hold an Orientation session from 3:30 - 4:30 pm in the World Stage Theater (Deck 2, forward). We'll give a brief overview of basic JoCo Cruise logistics at the start, then we'll take any general questions you may have. You can show up when you can/wish, and leave when you wish. It's not mandatory, but it's recommended for new JoCo Cruisers, and is open to all passengers.

Sail Away Reception

At 4:30 pm, to celebrate how we've all actually made it onboard (and also to watch the ship pull out of port), everyone is welcome to gather on the Lido and Observation Decks (Decks 9 and 10) and officially bid Regular Life “adieu” for the week and usher in JoCo Cruise Life. Free sparkling wine, mimosas and Bloody Marys!

What If I Miss the Ship?

Please see our “Help! I missed (or am going to miss) the ship! What do I do now?” FAQ item for complete information on what steps to take if you have missed, or fear you are going to miss, boarding in Fort Lauderdale.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#help-i-missed-or-am-going-to-miss

Friendshipping Buttons

We've teamed up once again with our friends Jenn and Trin from the Friendshipping podcast to provide Friendshipping buttons to indicate your social mood. You'll receive them during check-in; wear them as it suits you to indicate whether you are actively seeking social interactions currently, or prefer not to be approached. Please be sure to take cues from the Friendshipping buttons others might be wearing; if someone is wearing their “NO” button, please don't approach them even if they're currently interacting with others; rather, allow them to initiate any new interactions.

Seventeen days!

[February 11, 2022] Game Library; Some Invitations; and Answers to Numerous Questions

Hi gang! In today's email: some Game Library news, a few invites to some onboard events (to whet your appetites for the eventual publication of the schedule, happening SOON™), and a whole bunch of answers to oft-asked questions about COVID testing, travel documents and masking. We've put those last ones at the end of the email in case you don't feel like scrolling through them, but please at least give them a glance.

Off we go…

2022 Tabletop Game Library

A note from Ryn of the JoCo Cruise Tabletop Team:

Hello friends! Here's a much awaited update about the board game library. It's the JoCo Cruise 2022 game library list!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1784ojkAIjRNJuRA2U_m133tJSGuf9sOsuuFhxBRjzKM/edit#gid=0

The JoCo Cruise game library contains games in the JoCo permanent collection and games that your fellow passengers are lending for the week. It's a sharing and caring community of games. The game library is open 24 hours starting at 5pm on Day 1, is self-serve, and uses an old-fashioned card check-in/check-out system.

This list contains all of the titles in the JoCo Cruise permanent collection. AND it's a place to list games you are bringing to share to the library. This is so we don't have 12 folks bringing the same game. Use this list to add games you are bringing—or add a game to the wish list you'd love for someone to bring. We've added a few in blue we're specifically seeking, so if you can provide, we'd love that

Anti-Gravity Derby

This year we’re challenging all engineers, artists, safety-conscious daredevils, and anyone else who likes fun to construct a paper aircraft that will stay afloat as long as possible. Because the last one to hit the Atrium floor WINS! Kudos and prizes* will also be awarded for Artistic Merit, and/or Ingenuity. Plus other fun surprises (tbd). Complete rules can be found here.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T2OaoBhSUVZyCOz5PDReLNqs5AkqGFCL-oxjJ71sXbg/edit#heading=h.ewz2cwflf218

To participate, meet Coach Cruise (Storm) and Cruise Mom (Thera) in the Ocean Bar (Deck 3, Midship) on Day 2 (Sunday) at 3:30 p.m., with your aircraft ready to waft. Those wishing to witness the spectacle are encouraged to go to the Deck 2 Atrium area, or Deck 1 just outside of the central Atrium.

*Kudos and Prizes is the name of Storm and Thera’s stage magic act

A Heading Whereunder Drew Invites You to a Dress Party

For the last 12 years I’ve hosted a dress party to celebrate my birthday in May (usually in Prospect Park or a backyard), and somehow Paul, Storm and Jonathan always seemed to be “busy” when I invited them. After scheming with various millennials, we determined that the best way to get the X’er dads into dresses was to bring the dresses to their ship in the middle of the ocean, appoint them as the hosts, and irrevocably invite 2,000 people to attend. On JoCo Cruise 2020, we threw a dress party on the back deck on the 5th day and my dream—the dream of a generation—was realized.

The party was a hit and everyone had a ball (haha) and looked so fabulous in their dresses that we realized we simply had to throw another one. The theme of the party is “a celebration of wearing dresses.” Everyone is welcome, as are everyone's interpretations of the theme. Dresses are not strictly required, I should say, but also they’re pretty fun to wear. So, leave your staid 20th century gender ideas at the sliding door to the Lido buffet and join us on the Sea View deck in style.

TL;DR: You. In a dress. Sea View Pool Area (Deck 9, Aft), Day 4 (Tuesday) at 7:30 pm. And it'll organically morph into a dance party with DJ Riz. Pack a dress, wear it to the party, and I will see you there. I, for one, will be wearing my dress all day.

Virtual Petting Zoo

Would you like your pet to join the JoCo Cruise Virtual Petting Zoo? “What is that?” we hear you ask. And we answer: we arrange photos of attendees' pets into a slideshow that gets shown on TVs all around the ship. (Including the in-room on demand service. Animals 24/7!)

Got a pic of your pet(s) that you'd like to add to the gallery? Drop it into our 2022 Virtual Petting Zoo Google folder by February 19th. (If you want it to have any captions, you will need to place the caption in your photo yourself; we won't be able to do any captioning on our end, sorry.) Woof and meow and other pet noises!
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lM8NdQneU6gIJSmoKrVG_NR5sc-dy39u

Testing, Documentation and Mask Questions

We've been receiving some questions regarding COVID testing, travel documents and masks. While most, if not all, of them are covered in either HAL's FAQ or ours, here's a few answers and clarifications to some of our more frequent inquiries…

TESTING/VACCINATION QUESTIONS

For the “two days prior to sailing” test, what types of test are accepted? Can I use a self-test?
HAL's FAQ (under the item “What types of COVID-19 tests are accepted?”) lists all the test types accepted. The short answer: both antigen tests and NAAT tests (which includes PCR tests) are accepted. But the most important part is that any test you take must be “medically observed.”
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/frequently-asked-questions/faq-for-cruises-from-usa.html

In lieu of a test administered by a doctor or clinic; you may choose a self-test, but ONLY SELF-TESTS THAT INCLUDE A TELEHEALTH SERVICE MAY BE USED; “REGULAR” SELF-TESTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. (Basically, tests with telehealth services include an audio/video connection with a supervisor who monitors your testing and results.) HAL lists several options for ordering approved telehealth self-tests in their FAQ, under the item “Where can I get a viral COVID-19 test near me,” including prices and links for ordering.

What forms of proof of vaccination are acceptable?
Per HAL's FAQ (under the item “What proof of full vaccination will be expected?”), the following are acceptable forms of proof for the check-in process at the terminal: “Digital or paper records, or QR codes, showing the vaccine type, the date of each vaccine administered, the individuals name and date of birth or other identifier.”
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/frequently-asked-questions/faq-for-cruises-from-usa.html

NOTE: Some ports of call may require your physical vaccination card for disembarking. As of this writing, neither the Bahamas nor the USVI specify that you must produce your physical card, but policies can change without notice. If you want to be *absolutely* safe regarding the ports of call, you may wish to bring your actual card.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Do I need to have a passport? What other documents are acceptable for boarding?
HAL's “Do I need a passport?” FAQ details what travel documents are acceptable for boarding.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/faq.cruise-preparation.do-i-need-a-passport.html
The short version for US and Canadian citizens on a Caribbean cruise itinerary: a passport is the recommended travel document (you'll encounter the least hassle during embarkation and disembarkation), but any the following documents are acceptable if you require an alternative:

They also note: “However, in the absence of any of the documentation listed above, U.S. citizens can present a government issued photo ID, along with proof of citizenship (an original or copy of his or her government issued birth certificate, a Consular report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Naturalization). A passport is still the preferred document.”

Finally, please note that an Enhanced Driver's License is not the same thing as a Real ID Driver's License.

MASKS

What types of masks are required?
Per HAL's FAQ (under “Will I have to wear a face mask?”), passengers “may…use their own double-layer cloth or paper medical mask that completely covers the nose and mouth, fits snugly against the sides of the face and has a nose wire.” At a minimum, therefore, masks must snugly fit around your mouth and nose and be “double-layer cloth or paper medical mask” quality or better.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/frequently-asked-questions/faq-for-cruises-from-usa.html

What types of masks are not allowed?
Per the same FAQ item, “Face coverings such as bandanas, neck gaiters, and masks with exhaust valves are not allowed. Please note that visors and face shields will not be accepted as a substitute for a face mask.” In other words, masks that don't provide a snug fit and/or otherwise openly vent unfiltered air are not permitted. JoCo Cruise will defer to the judgement of ship staff if a passenger's mask is determined to be inadequate.

What types of masks are recommended?
Both HAL and JoCo Cruise strongly recommend the use of higher-grade, snugly-fitting masks (such as N95 or KN95), as they have been shown to be the most effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

What about my [insert unique mask type here]?
We ask that you use your best judgement and common sense as to whether a given “non-standard” mask type or design is adequate. For example, masks with clear plastic (for easier viewing of the mouth) should fit snugly and be rated for adequate filtration. Use the same guidelines for respirators, cosplay masks, etc. Again, JoCo Cruise will defer to the judgement of ship staff if a passenger's mask is determined to be inadequate.

Are we done announcing lineup additions? NO, WE ARE NOT. More to come.

Theme Days

Here's the official list of the JoCo Cruise 2022 Theme Days:

  • Day 1 (Sat. Mar. 5): Welcome, New Cruisers!
An annual tradition, on Day 1 we plan numerous activities designed to welcome our first-timers into the JoCo Cruise experience. Please make a particular effort on this day to seek out new JoCo Cruisers and help show them what a great decision they've made by joining us!
  • Day 3 (Mon. Mar. 7): Cosplay Day
Today is the day to really let your cosplay flag fly! While you're welcome to cosplay any and all days of the cruise, this is your day for pulling out all the stops.
  • Day 5 (Wed. Mar. 9): Formal Night
    See notes below.
  • Day 6 (Thu. Mar. 10): Birthday Day
Every single one of us has had at least one birthday since the last JoCo Cruise—most of us, two—and many of us were forced by the pandemic to forego any proper celebration of the day. Well, we're gonna fix that today, because we declare by the Law of the Sea that TODAY IS OFFICIALLY EVERYONE'S BIRTHDAY!
  • Day 7 (Fri. Mar. 11): Jammies Day
Everyone's running out of clean clothes anyway, so today is one big day-long celebration of the fact that nobody can make us put on “real” clothes if we don't want to!

Formal Night “Rules”:

  • Formal wear is encouraged, but not required, at dinner.
  • “Formal wear” is defined VERY flexibly. Tuxedo and cocktail dress? Fine. Sport coat and slacks? Sure. Starfleet uniform? Awesome. Full Scottish regalia? Bonnie. Your best t-shirt? Skrelnik. You get the idea.
  • Fancy headwear (tiaras, top hats, etc.) and mustaches are welcomed—but again, not required.

30 days!

[February 1, 2022] HAL Booking Numbers, and Some Other Very Important Info

Lots of important stuff here, so please be sure to read it all. Thanks!

Here's Your Holland America Booking Number

Hooray! They arrived much sooner than expected!

Your Holland America Booking Number is « Booking Number »

Once you've logged into your HAL Account on hollandamerica.com (if you're new, you'll need to create one), select “Already Booked - Manage My Bookings” from the top menu, and use this booking number. Once complete, you'll be able to pre-purchase onboard amenities (drink packages, specialty restaurant reservations, spa packages, etc.) and shore excursions once those options become available (see below).
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US.html

You'll also use this number to go through HAL's online check-in process (see below). All guests should complete this process (or have it completed for them) no fewer than 72 hours prior to our March 5th departure.
https://book2.hollandamerica.com/olci-iu/#/findBooking

This email was sent to any guests in your booking who have user accounts AND have a booking number assigned to them already. You can view the Booking Number status for all guests in your booking at your JoCo Cruise User Account.
https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

NOTE: If your booking number shows up above and/or in your User Account as “pending,” please check with your booking's Primary Contact; they should have your booking number. This is a temporary issue with a small group of passengers who either have made recent changes to their information or have not yet responded to their User Account invitation.

VERY IMPORTANT: Confirm the Names in Your Booking

IMPORTANT: please take some time right now (or as close to “right now” as is feasible) to double-check the names of all the passengers in your booking. Each passenger's name as listed in the booking must match their name as it appears on their passport/travel documents. If a passenger's name doesn't match, at best it could cause delays during the boarding process, and at worst could result in their getting prevented from boarding the ship.

If any names require updating, please notify us immediately at info@jococruise.com so that we may get it corrected ASAP.

Shore Excursion Booking Opens February 9th

As a reminder, online booking for shore excursions and specialty dining will open Wednesday, February 9 at 12 pm Eastern. (Some onboard amenities, such as spa appointments and beverages, are available now.)

If you try to preview shore excursions on the HAL website before that day/time, none will show up yet for our sailing. HAL is working on providing us a preview “eBrochure” of the shore excursions that will be available during JoCo Cruise 2022, and we'll forward a link for that once we've received it.

Holland America Online Check-In

Each person in your booking will need to complete online check-in (or have it completed for them) no fewer than 72 hours prior to our departure on March 5th, 2022. Online check-in is available now on Holland America's website. You'll need your HAL Booking Number (listed above) for this. Additional information regarding the check-in process can be found in HAL's FAQ.
https://book2.hollandamerica.com/olci-iu/#/findBooking
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/faq.cruise-preparation.how-do-i-check-in-online.html

We'll email everyone a check-in reminder as sailing approaches. (Probably several!)

Technical Note: If anyone in your booking has only recently entered their personal information or has recently changed it (such as their name, etc.) since January 21st, HAL may not have processed this update yet. Don't worry, THEY WILL! (Please allow a few weeks for processing, though it will hopefully happen faster than that.) These people unfortunately may not be able to check in online or book shore excursions until their update has been processed.

You can still check-in online even if your cabin number is listed incorrectly on the HAL website. (This applies to passengers who have recently had a cabin change.)

Medical/Dietary/Special Requirements

For guests with medical, dietary or other special requirements, Holland America has a thorough FAQ regarding the subject. Passengers with such needs should submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) form via the HAL site. (You'll need your HAL booking number to complete the form.)
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/accessibility.html
https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action

NOTE: guests with non-life threatening dietary restrictions should contact the Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 and ask them to add that information as a note in your booking.

ALSO NOTE: you must submit special needs requests to HAL, which handles them directly. JoCo Cruise cannot process these requests.

YET ANOTHER NOTE: the Ship Services Department is well aware that our HAL Booking Numbers have been received late this year, and have advised everyone not to worry about the “minimum 45 day advance” stressed in their documentation for submitting SRI forms; they will be working to accommodate all our passengers as thoroughly as possible with any and all requirements.

For detailed information on accessibility of shore excursions, HAL strongly recommends contacting their Shore Excursions Department prior to embarkation at 1-888-425-9376 (or locally at 206-626-7320) or visiting the Shore Excursions Office on board.

[January 31, 2022] Cabin Numbers; Call for Shutternauts; Timelines for More Info

Your 2022 Cabin Number: « CabinNumber »

Your booking has been officially assigned a cabin on the Nieuw Amsterdam for JoCo Cruise 2022! Huzzah!

Your booking's cabin number is « CabinNumber »

You can view more cabin details and get a link to view the Nieuw Amsterdam's PDF deck plans in your JoCo Cruise User Account. In some cases, your account may include a note regarding your placement. If you have questions about your cabin placement after checking your account, please write to us!

“When Will I Receive My HAL Booking Number?”

HAL has informed us that we will receive everyone's HAL booking numbers “within the next several days, no later than February 8th.” The process for assigning them is internal to HAL, so we can't say any more specifically than this. We can say that we will forward your HAL booking numbers (which are required for the HAL Online Check-in process, book shore excursions and onboard amenities, etc.) as soon as it's possible for us to do so.

If your cabin number on HAL's website is incorrect, you should expect a correction to surface in their system 1-2 weeks after you receive your booking number from us.

Note for those with medical, dietary or other special requirements: the Ship Services Department is fully aware that our HAL Booking Numbers have been received late this year, and have advised everyone not to worry about the “minimum 45 day advance” stressed in their documentation for submitting SRI forms (which require your HAL booking number in order to be submitted). They will be working to accommodate all our passengers as thoroughly as possible with any and all requirements.

“When Can I Book Shore Excursions?”

Holland America offers numerous activities and tours in our various ports of call (biking, snorkeling, walking and boat tours, etc.) for pre-purchase via your HAL account, as well as on board at the ship's EXC Tours desk. On the HAL website, you can go select “Already Booked” - “Book Shore Excursions” from the top menu, and use your HAL booking number.

Shore excursion (Shorex) booking for our sailing will open Wednesday, February 9th at 12 noon Eastern/9 am Pacific. This is a process managed by HAL, and we have no involvement with or control over it. As such, we can't guarantee the exact timing of when Shorex booking will become available; if you're exceptionally keen on particular excursions or amenities, we recommend you be “on the alert” that day around the scheduled time; they might be opened slightly early or late.

“When are You Announcing the JoCo Cruise 2022 Lineup?”

Call for Shutternauts

And now, a brief word courtesy of our friend Steve, a.k.a. “Bat Steve”…

We are now soliciting volunteers for the ShutterNauts!

Who are the ShutterNauts?

ShutterNauts are a group of Photography Volunteers that roam the ship taking awesome pictures of EVERYTHING. Concerts, events, other attendees, the ship, ports and beaches, the works! After the cruise, we’ll gather all the photos, sort through them, and post them online, which will be digitally distributed to every attendee FOR FREE.

Prerequisites for being a ShutterNaut:

  • Have a good camera (preferably a DSLR or Mirrorless high end camera)
  • Have a keen eye for action and people photography
  • Love to take pictures of people having fun (and having fun while doing it)
  • Have previously sailed on a JoCo Cruise (we don’t want your first cruise to be spent working!)

If you are interested in becoming a ShutterNaut, please email Steve Petrucelli at spetrucelli@gmail.com to sign up!

[January 31, 2022] JoCo Cruise 2022 - Health and Safety Update (Jan. 31, 2022)

Per our December “Health and Safety Update” email, we’ve spent the past month monitoring the evolution of the pandemic, the omicron surge, and the state of the cruising industry, with the expectation that there would be solid enough information by now to make key decisions about JoCo Cruise 2022. Thank you for your patience, and for the many messages and emails of support we’ve received over the past few weeks. They truly mean a lot to us.
https://mailchi.mp/3cd0eee17b80/12-03-5187457

After careful consideration and based on the best available information, we’re happy to confirm that yes, JoCo Cruise is a “go” for March 5, 2022. We’ve all faced a lot of challenges since April 2020, and while there will be adaptations this year, we are super excited to get the gang back together and set sail with everyone.

Of course, the continued pandemic and the effects of COVID-19 are still a cause for general caution. At this point in time, however, the data is clear that the omicron surge has peaked nationally. Case rates and hospitalizations are declining—dramatically so in many areas of the U.S. where the surge hit earliest—and by the time we sail, projections indicate that this surge will have largely abated in most parts of the country.
https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?facet=none&Metric=Confirmed+cases&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=false&Color+by+test+positivity=false&country=~USA
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/covid-cases.html
https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america?view=infections-testing&tab=compare&test=positive_tests

Regarding the cruise industry, sailings have been ongoing out of Fort Lauderdale and elsewhere, including full-ship charters similar to JoCo Cruise. It’s true that cases do occur onboard cruise ships, as they do in airports, hotels, grocery stores, movie theaters, restaurants, and bars. No public gathering space is risk-free. This said, we strongly believe that, with our sailing's vaccination and testing requirements and the safety protocols in place onboard, we can and will hold our event safely.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-the-covid-19-policy-for
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well.html

A brief reminder of our COVID-19 safety policies:

  • Vaccination: 100% of our passengers are required to be fully vaccinated. No exceptions.
    https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-the-covid-19-policy-for
    • While booster shots are not currently required, they are strongly recommended for all passengers who are eligible to receive them. Scientific consensus is that they provide the strongest protection against omicron and other variants, and against severe illness in the event of infection.
  • Testing: All passengers must provide proof of a negative, medically observed test taken within two days of embarkation. Additionally, all JoCo Cruise passengers will be tested once again at the terminal on March 5th as part of our check-in/boarding process.
    https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-the-covid-19-policy-for
  • Masking: Masks will be required in all indoor spaces while onboard the Nieuw Amsterdam except in your stateroom or while eating or drinking. They will also be required in crowded outdoor spaces where social distancing isn’t possible.
    https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-the-hal-masking-policy
    • HAL and JoCo Cruise recommend the use of higher-grade, snugly-fitting masks (such as N95 or KN95), as they have been shown to be the most effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

It’s of course possible that new developments could change the general trajectory of this pandemic/endemic, and we will continue to closely monitor the situation in the coming weeks. Based on the information currently available, and current trends and prior patterns, we believe any sudden new developments are unlikely to occur before or during our sailing window.

As always, guest safety and satisfaction are our highest priorities. Given our track record during this era, we hope you’ll feel comfortable that we’ll find a safe and fair path through whatever might come our way between now and March 12th.

COVID-19 and Your Booking

Given the uncertainty that COVID-19 introduces into travel plans, we have worked to create policies that make it easier to sail with confidence and to know that, if something unexpected happens with your booking, you’ll have solid information to work with. You can find full details of our policies in our FAQ, but there’s one recent policy addition we’d like to highlight:
https://jococruise.com/faq/#covid19

COVID-19 Underlying Medical Conditions Policy

Some JoCo Cruise attendees may have underlying medical conditions associated with higher risk for severe COVID-19. For those JoCo Cruise 2022 passengers with such underlying medical conditions (as listed by the CDC), JoCo Cruise can offer the option to modify their bookings and receive Future Cruise Credit toward a booking on JoCo Cruise 2023 (23FCC).
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-care/underlyingconditions.html

See our FAQ for complete details of this policy.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#i-have-an-underlying-medical-condition

(NOTE: per the FAQ, to qualify for this policy, we must receive your physician’s letter no later than February 18, 2022.)
https://jococruise.com/faq/#i-have-an-underlying-medical-condition

What's Next?

You should have another email from us in your inbox as we speak (or quite soon) that includes your cabin number, as well as timelines for receiving your HAL booking numbers, shore excursion purchases opening, and our initial lineup announcement. So say it with us, and say it loud:

SOON™!

Thanks,

The Management

[December 24, 2021] JoCo Cruise 2022 Health and Safety Update

Hi, friends. Yes, we know it's Christmas Eve (ho ho ho, etc.), but we thought this information was important enough to send to you now rather than wait until later.

Like you, we’ve been watching the news about the omicron COVID-19 variant, and trying to figure out where everything stands. We’d like to share what we currently know about COVID-19 as it relates to JoCo Cruise 2022, and our timeline for releasing additional information. It’s a mix of new info and things we’ve shared before.

Safety Protocols and Procedures

First, a few words about precautions and policies that are currently in place…

Onboard Testing and Vaccination Requirements

As we’ve noted previously, we’ve been happy with the health and safety precautions HAL has instituted for JoCo Cruise so far. The current state of these requirements is listed below (the most accurate and up-to-date word on HAL policies is always on their website).
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/covid-guest-protocols.html

  • Proof of vaccination is required. All passengers and crew must be fully vaccinated (14 days or more from final dose) and show proof before sailing. There are no exceptions to this policy: unvaccinated guests MAY NOT SAIL. If you have children in your booking who are too young to be fully vaccinated by the time of sailing, or other members who are medically unable to be vaccinated, please write to us at booking@jococruise.com.
  • A negative, medically observed test is required within two days of sailing. All passengers must receive a medically observed PCR or antigen COVID test within the two days preceding embarkation (i.e., on Mar. 3rd or 4th), and present proof of their negative test results at the terminal. Guests who test positive for COVID-19 should not travel to the terminal and should Contact JoCo Cruise.
  • A negative in-terminal antigen test will be required during check-in. On embarkation day, all guests will be administered an additional antigen test (at no cost to the guest) at the terminal before boarding JoCo Cruise. Guests who test positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to embark. (Note: this additional precaution is specific to JoCo Cruise and is not listed on the Holland America website.)

New Onboard Safety Measures

Onboard the Nieuw Amsterdam, Holland America has instituted numerous precautionary measures, including the following:
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well.html

  • Increased cleaning frequencies
  • Reduced guest contact with serving utensils and food in dining venues
  • Ship’s crew are required to be vaccinated, masked in all public areas, and must test twice weekly
  • Air filtration has been enhanced and upgraded
  • Dedicated quarantine/isolation cabins (on separate ventilation) have been set aside in case any guests or crew need to be isolated
  • Enhanced onboard COVID care has been instituted, including in-stateroom one-hour PCR testing, and test and trace protocols

Onboard Masking

The current HAL masking policy is as follows: “All guests regardless of age will be required to wear face masks at all times in elevators and in all indoor areas of the ship, except when eating or drinking or in their own staterooms. This includes wearing face masks prior to being seated in all dining venues and Lido Market, while dancing in public lounges, and outdoors if in large gatherings and physical distancing cannot be maintained.”

We also strongly encourage all our passengers to maintain safe masking and social distancing protocols while in Fort Lauderdale pre-cruise, regardless of venue, local or state policies.

Boosters

While receiving a COVID-19 booster vaccination is not required by HAL to board, the current scientific consensus is that boosters are very effective against the omicron variant. The CDC, HAL and JoCo Cruise all strongly recommend that everyone receive a booster vaccination if eligible. The team at the Home Office are all fully boosted, and while we’re not supposed to discuss the new secret superpowers we’ve received, they’re pretty cool. Join us!

COVID-19 and Your Booking

We know you may have concerns about how the pandemic might affect your booking. Here are a few policies we’re able to announce to help ease some potential concerns…

Future Cruise Credit if you test positive for COVID-19 prior to JoCo Cruise 2022

If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result from either of the required COVID-19 tests (two days prior, or at the terminal), your Primary Contact will be entitled to Future Cruise Credit for JoCo Cruise 2023 (“23FCC”) for a portion or the full amount of your booking’s payment balance. See our FAQ item on this issue for complete details.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#i-received-a-positive-result-on

If you receive a positive, medically observed COVID-19 test result at another point in the 30 days prior to sailing, please contact us to discuss options for your booking, including 23FCC options. See our FAQ item on this issue for complete details.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#i-had-a-positive-covid-19-test-result

Future Cruise Credit for international guests restricted from travel to or from JoCo Cruise 2022

Beginning on February 3rd (i.e., within 30 days of our sailing), if you are a non-US citizen/resident and an official, published travel restriction would prevent you from traveling to or from JoCo Cruise 2022, the Primary Contact of your booking will be entitled to receive 23FCC for a portion or the full amount of your booking’s payment balance. We will consider published policies that are either in effect or go into effect within the 30 days prior to JoCo Cruise (Feb 3 onward) and whose end dates extend indefinitely or into any part of March, 2022. Complete information can be found in our FAQ on this issue.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#a-travel-restriction-prevents

Pro-rata Future Cruise Credit if you test positive onboard during JoCo Cruise 2022

If you test positive onboard JoCo Cruise 2022, the ship’s medical staff will care for you, and may have you move to a more isolated stateroom, among other health and safety measures. The Primary Contact of your booking will be entitled to 23FCC for the cruise days spent in quarantine. For more info, see our FAQ item on this issue.
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-happens-if-i-test-positive

What We Still Don't Know Yet

All of the facts aren’t in yet about the omicron variant, and it’s impossible to know with any degree of certainty what advances or setbacks we may face in the coming weeks. There will be a lot more data soon enough about both the state of the pandemic and its impact on travel (and on cruising specifically). Obviously, the situation continues to evolve rapidly—for example, in just the past few days, new therapeutics have been authorized and show great promise as an important new treatment option in the ongoing fight.

More information coming Soon™

We’ll be emailing an update to all our guests on February 3rd (or before) with any updates to HAL or JoCo Cruise policies, along with a recap of the latest testing and vaccination requirements.

We also want to be able to address the issues our guests are facing: if you have specific questions or concerns about your booking as it relates to COVID-19, we encourage you to email us. But please understand that we may not be able to completely resolve some issues until closer to our sailing date.

Thank you, as always, for your continued awesomeness, and the happiest of Holiday Seasons to you all!

THO.

[December 17, 2021] Helpers, Mariner Society Numbers, Team Leader Opt-out, and HAL Booking Info Note

Renewed Call for Helpers

We could still use some additional Helpers for 2022; per our earlier email, Helpers are attendees who donate time on board to help monitor events, staff the Info Desk, sell artist merch at shows, and a ton of other tasks.
https://mailchi.mp/ecb77a561703/2022-cruise-merch-call-for-helpers-shadow-cruise-submissions-and-accessibility-survey

Check out our 2022 Helpers page to see all the different ways you can help out onboard. We particularly could use some more hands with Welcome Wagon, Dinner Hosts, and Twit-arr mods; but any help is welcome help. Once you've looked over the options, if you're interested in joining the ranks, you can fill out our Helper Volunteer Form. (You'll be prompted to login to your User Account if you're not already logged in.) Thanks in advance, we're greatly obliged to everyone who's able to join the ranks!
https://jococruise.com/helpers/
https://book.jococruise.com/joco-cruise-2022-helper-submission-form/

*NOTE: we do not utilize first-time attendees as Helpers. We appreciate first-timers’ willingness to help out, but it’s important to us that people on their first JoCo Cruise spend that time enjoying and familiarizing themselves with the event and the JoCo Cruise community.

Mariner Society Numbers

FYI, you are now able to enter Holland America Mariner Society ID numbers for yourself and others in your booking so that you can receive Mariner Society credit for your JoCo Cruise sailing. In your JoCo Cruise User Account, under the “Passengers” tab, you can enter your number in the field provided (near the bottom of the page; see sample photo below). Please submit this information by January 15th.
https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

Membership in Holland America's Mariner Society Rewards Program allows you to earn credits and receive amenities on HAL cruises, including gifts, onboard discounts and even complimentary cruise fare for extra guests on HAL sailings. See their website for complete details.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/mariner-society.html

Team Leader Opt-out

As in previous years, Red Team and Gold Team will each be randomly assigned a team leader. Red Leader and Gold Leader will each receive an appropriate “crown,” front row seats to the Main Concerts for them and their “wingpersons,” and the praise and approbation of their fellow attendees.
https://book.jococruise.com/joco-cruise-2022-red-leader-gold-leader-opt-out-form/

If you do not wish to be part of the Red Leader/Gold Leader random drawing pool, please fill out the Red Leader/Gold Leader Opt-out Form (You'll need to be logged in to your User Account.)
https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

HAL Booking Information: When?

Because several of you have asked about this recently…HAL booking numbers and cabin assignments for JoCo Cruise 2022 will be released by the beginning of February 2022. We'll provide at least a week's notice prior to opening shore excursions and other online pre-cruise bookings through Holland America Line to our guests. (For new cruisers: your HAL booking number is required to book shore excursions and other onboard amenities via the HAL website.)

This timing is later than previous years' due to the nature of the manifest submission process at the cruise line. In short, our initial submission of cabin placements can be imported automatically into their system, while every subsequent change must be entered manually. We are working to make the lives of our partners at HAL easier by processing fewer manual changes (which also decreases the risk of typos on the manifest).

[December 3, 2021] Dinner Seating Assignments; Fixed Dinner Seating Requests

Red Team/Gold Team Assignments

Your booking has been assigned to: « Red Team / Gold Team »

As a reminder, Red Team members attend the Early Dinner and the Late Main Concert; Gold Team members attend the Early Main Concert and the Late Dinner.

This team assignment should be reflected in the “Booking Preferences” tab of your User Account page; the selection menu will be defaulted to your assigned team. (You either requested this seating in your User Account, or were assigned it after either indicating no preference or making no selection.)
https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

During boarding, team members will receive an appropriately colored lanyard for their badge. This badge and lanyard will serve as your pass for attending all Main Concerts; please make sure you have them with you at these events for proper entry. (Anyone who gets assigned to Club SRO will be notified directly; your Dinner Seating assignment will remain applicable.)

And to be clear: these “teams” are not rivals. Rather, just like in the original Star Wars, they are allies working together towards a common goal: creating the best JoCo Cruise ever. (And destroying any Death Stars we might encounter.)

Fixed Dinner Seating Requests

As those of you who've been with us before are already aware, within the Early/Late Dinner assignments above, seating is generally open—from night to night, you can sit at whichever table you like.

Some people may prefer to have fixed seating for the duration of the week—to better accommodate special dietary needs or restrictions, or to stay with a particular group of family/friends, or what have you.

If you want fixed seating at dinner, you can fill out our Fixed Dinner Seating Request Form for your booking (or just for some members of your booking). You may also request to be seated with friends from other bookings; if you plan to do that, please confirm ahead of time that you're all in the same dinner seating time. This form will only be open until December 31, 2021, so don't dawdle if you'd like to request fixed seating!
https://book.jococruise.com/joco-cruise-2022-family-seating-fixed-dinner-seating-request-form/

In years past, some families with young children have requested to sit with/near other families at dinner. We've set aside a (non-mandatory) “Family Seating” area in the dining room. There's a section of the above form where you can request this, if you're interested. Doing so doesn't commit you to sitting there or assign you a table; it merely gives us a sense of how large we should make that area for each seating.

[November 11, 2021] JoCo Cruise 2022 and COVID-19 Policy

JoCo Cruise 2022 and Holland America COVID-19 Policy

Over the past few days, the JoCo Cruise Management salied on a Holland America Line cruise. In addition to enjoying Caribbean cruising's return, we felt it was important to see and experience firsthand the cruise line's updated COVID-19 protocols. We know it's of the utmost concern to everyone hoping to join us in 2022.

We were very happy with how seriously HAL (among other cruise lines) is taking their COVID-19 protocols, and how firmly they are prioritizing passenger and crew health and safety. The cruiseport and onboard staff were excellent and supportive throughout our boarding and sailing experience. Not only are pre-sailing COVID-19 tests required for all passengers within two days of sailing, but everyone was tested again upon reaching the cruiseport. And various improvements to onboard protocols (including food service, ship staffing and overall hygienic practices) were evident throughout. Most importantly: we can officially report that cruising still feels, you know, like cruising!

COVID-19 Policy for JoCo Cruise 2022

HAL's COVID-19 Guest Protocols page outlines their current policies and procedures. They also have an extremely thorough FAQ that outlines many details about their vaccination and testing requirements, boarding process, onboard health protocols, and more. JoCo Cruise will adhere to all Holland America COVID-19 guidelines for JoCo Cruise 2022. Although JoCo Cruise has added a COVID-19 section to our FAQ (covering some topics as they specifically relate to JoCo Cruisers), the pages linked above—especially HAL's FAQ—should serve as your main source of information regarding preparations for sailing on JoCo Cruise 2022.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/covid-guest-protocols.html
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/frequently-asked-questions/faq-for-cruises-from-usa.html
https://jococruise.com/faq/#covid19
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/worry-free-promise/travel-well/frequently-asked-questions/faq-for-cruises-from-usa.html

We do want to call your attention to several important aspects of their current COVID-19 policy as of this email (Nov. 11th):

  • All guests must provide proof of vaccination—specifically, that they have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise. There are no exceptions to this requirement.
  • Additionally, all guests must also provide proof of a negative, medically observed, viral COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within 2 days of their embarkation.

Again, please consult HAL's FAQ for complete information regarding acceptable forms of proof of vaccination and pre-cruise testing information. Also, please note that while HAL's COVID-19 policies will apply to JoCo Cruise 2022, because we are a charter sailing, Holland America Line’s COVID-19 Protection Program does not apply to bookings on JoCo Cruise 2022.

We have already emailed those bookings that, according to our records, have one or more small children who may not be eligible for full vaccination in time for JoCo Cruise 2022. If your booking faces this situation and you have not received an email from us, please contact booking@jococruise.com immediately.

If you have questions regarding the current policy, please first consult HAL's FAQ; it's extremely thorough and detailed, and should contain answers to most common questions about their COVID-19 requirements and procedures.

What If HAL's Policy Changes?

As noted in their FAQ, HAL's COVID-19 policies currently apply to all sailings through February 28, 2022. Some elements of their policies may change before we sail, but we don't expect there to be any substantial changes to the main policy requirements. Any future decisions we make relating to any HAL policy changes will be made based on the best available information and current science, and with the health and safety of all our passengers as our top priority.

Placement Requests

Per our last email, if you have any 2022 Booking Preferences requests (stateroom placement, bed configuration, and/or dinner seating requests), please get them into us ASAP. Technically, the deadline was November 5th, but we're granting a brief deadline extension for anyone who forgot or whose dog ate their homework, etc.

[October 22, 2021] Dinner Seating, Bed Configuration and Cabin Placement Requests; Accessibility Panel Discussions

Booking Preferences: Cabin Placement Requests, Bed Placement, Dinner Seating

2022 Booking Preferences are now available as needed; you can follow that link to go directly to the appropriate page in your User Account (you'll be prompted to log in if necessary), and can always access it via the menu bar at the top of your User Account page.
https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

Please take special note of the following sections of your Booking Preferences page:

  • Stateroom Placement Requests - If you have any requests regarding where your assigned stateroom is located (near or far from elevators, towards the front/middle/back of the ship, etc.), please check them in this section. THO will do the best we can to accommodate requests, but placement requests cannot be guaranteed.
Please submit your stateroom placement requests by November 5th.
  • Bed Placement - The two “main” beds in your stateroom (for single and double occupancy rooms, the only beds) can be configured either as two separate beds or joined together as a single, larger bed; you can select your preference in this section.
Please submit your bed placement requests by November 5th.
  • Dinner Seating - Most days on JoCo Cruise, there are two dinner seatings and two Main Concerts: early and late (tentatively 5 pm and 7:30 pm). The early dinner seating sees the late show, and vice versa. (This is because the both the ship's main theater and the dining room can accommodate roughly half the passengers at any one time.) The Early Dinner/Late Concert group is referred to as the “Red Team,” and the Late Dinner/Early Concert group is called the “Gold Team.” If you have a preference for either option, please indicate it in this section. (NOTE: you're not required to eat in the ship's main dining room; there are plenty of other dining options. These “team” assignments help THO and the ship manage crowd capacity in the theater and dining room.)
Please submit your dinner seating requests by November 5th. (Sense a pattern forming here?)

Accessibility Panel Discussions

Thanks very much to everyone who completed the Accessibility Survey from our last email. Your feedback is essential to all that we do.

In order to improve the experience for all our attendees, in particular those who may face challenges related to various disability conditions and states of ability, we plan to hold several panel discussions with representatives from the JoCo Cruise community.

If you're interested in taking part in these discussions, please take a moment to complete our Accessibility Panel Submission Form. Participants will be selected randomly from the pool of submissions and will be compensated for their time and participation.

JoCo Cruise 2022 Merchandise

You know what they* say: “The next best thing to being there is shopping at there's online store.”

So until JoCo Cruise 2022 sails, feel free to indulge in the Next Best Thing, as our 2022 merchandise is now available in the JoCo Cruise merch store at DFTBA!
https://store.dftba.com/collections/joco-cruise

As a reminder, this year we've revised our merch process; in previous years, you'd pre-order your items, and they'd be delivered to your cabin on board the actual cruise. Now, we've joined with the awesome folks at DFTBA to handle our merch fulfillment, so all your fun goodies will get delivered right to your doorstep * *, and you won't have to wait until March to get them!

Our artwork this year is by the amazingly talented Ridge Rooms, and we're so thrilled to have finally gotten to work with her. Just look at all the cool stuff we've got this year…so many t-shirts! A zip-up hoodie! The return of the JoCo Cruise polo shirt and bucket hat! Temporary tattoos! Enamel pins and challenge coins and posters, oh my!
https://ridgerooms.com/

Plus, we still have some 2021 Virtual Cruise items available, as well as our popular SOON™ gear. So head on over to the JoCo Cruise merch store and have at it.

Call for Helpers

Every year, JoCo Cruise stays metaphorically afloat thanks to the help of an army of attendees who donate time on board to help monitor events, staff the Info Desk, sell artist merch at shows, and a ton of other tasks. We call these stalwart altruists our Helpers. And you can be one too!

Check out our 2022 Helpers page to see all the different ways you can help out onboard. Once you've looked over the options, if you're interested in joining the ranks, you can fill out our Helper Volunteer Form. (You'll be prompted to login to your User Account if you're not already logged in.) Thanks in advance to everyone who's able to join the ranks!
https://jococruise.com/helpers/
https://book.jococruise.com/joco-cruise-2022-helper-submission-form/

*NOTE: we do not utilize first-time attendees as Helpers. We appreciate first-timers’ willingness to help out, but it’s important to us that people on their first JoCo Cruise spend that time enjoying and familiarizing themselves with the event and the JoCo Cruise community.

Shadow Cruise

As those of you who've been with us before are aware, every year we provide space on board and in the schedule for the attendees to put together and run their own events throughout the week. This program, known as the Shadow Cruise, rivals our official programming in both scale and awesomeness. From gaming to performing to crafting to jamming to stargazing to yoga to…well, you get the idea.

Drop by our Shadow Cruise page for more information, and if you're inspired to submit your own Shadow Cruise event(s), hop on over to our Shadow Cruise Event Submission Form. (You'll be prompted to log in to your User Account if you're not already logged in.)

Accessibility Survey

We are always working to improve our support for and inclusiveness of all our attendees, including those who may face challenges related to various disability conditions and states of ability.

To help us with this ongoing process, we would appreciate it if you all would take a few minutes to complete the JoCo Cruise Accessibility Survey. This survey is intended to help us gain further insight into the experiences, thoughts and opinions of JoCo Cruise attendees regarding such issues. We greatly appreciate, as always, your help and input with these important issues.

[July 8, 2021] Reminder: Berth Additions Wait List July 8 Deadline

The below info is copied from our June 18th email as a reminder.

The short version: if you plan to add a berth/berths to your existing booking, today (July 8, 2021) is the last day to sign up on the Berth Additions Wait List in order to avoid incurring an additional fee of $350 per added berth. (You can still sign up after today; but any berth additions for booking signed up after today will incur that fee.)
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerU0mCua2nimFnhvJPR2usG0u8VIMlqp-z8RJW4MZ1NyAXgg/viewform

If you have no plans to add berths to your booking, you can ignore the rest of this email; otherwise, full details are below.

Happy mid-July!

IMPORTANT: Adding Berths

Because JoCo Cruise 2022 is expected to be filled to “100% occupancy,” there will be some restrictions on adding berths (i.e., the number of people staying in your stateroom), similar to ones in place for our 2020 cruise.

If you are planning to add a berth/berths to your booking, and have not already selected and paid for those berths, please read the rest of this section and sign up for the Berth Additions Wait List by July 8, 2021. (This form is also linked in the “Helpful Links” section of your JoCo Cruise User Account, so you can access it at any time.)
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerU0mCua2nimFnhvJPR2usG0u8VIMlqp-z8RJW4MZ1NyAXgg/viewform

Why should someone sign up for this list?
Anyone wishing to add berths to their booking who has not signed up on the Berth Additions Wait List by July 8, 2021 will need to pay an additional $350 fee per added berth (only assessed if and when we are able to add the requested berth(s) to your booking).

TO BE CLEAR: the above fee does not apply to wait list requests made by July 8th, nor to anyone adding “real” passenger information for an existing “TBD guest” berth (i.e., if you initially paid for a multi-passenger cabin but didn’t have all the passenger information at the time of booking).

What do we mean by “add berths to your booking?”
Here's the simplest way to know for sure whether you need to sign up for this wait list:

  • Look in the “Your Stateroom” section of the Account Summary tab for where it lists your stateroom type and a number—“VA (Verandah Stateroom) for 2” in the example image below:
  • That number = number of berths in your booking
  • If you plan to add any more berths than that, you must sign up for the Berth Additions Wait List

Triple and Quad Staterooms
Quad-occupancy and triple-occupancy staterooms are nearly or totally sold out in most categories. If you have made a single- or double-occupancy booking but plan to upgrade to a triple or quad, please join the Berth Additions Wait List. Additional third and fourth berths will be offered to the wait list based on stateroom availability.

Single Occupancy Bookings
If you've booked a single-occupancy stateroom and plan to add a second berth, please also join the Berth Additions Wait List. Once we have clearer projections on guest count and know the number of waitlist requests, we will start processing this portion of the waitlist. (This may take some time.) We hope to be able to satisfy all single-to-double berth addition requests, but we need to know how many there will be.

I've joined this waitlist; when will I know if I get my added berth(s)?
We're working with the cruise line to determine exactly how many guests we can safely bring. We'll be doing everything we can to accommodate everyone's waitlist requests—we want as many guests as the Sea Cops will allow to attend JoCo Cruise 2022. That said, please note that joining the Berth Additions Wait List does not guarantee that we can accommodate your request.

So again, if you are planning to add more berths to your booking, please join the Berth Additions Wait List by July 8, 2021. Those on this wait list will be the first to receive updates regarding berth availability. Our goal is to satisfy all requests possible.

[June 18, 2021] 2022 Cruise: Adding Berths, Club SRO, Salutations and Shadow TV Submissions

As 2021 chugs along, we wanted to update everyone on a few items relating to your JoCo Cruise 2022 bookings…

IMPORTANT: Adding Berths

Club SRO

Once again this year, we are offering a program called Club SRO (“Standing Room Only”), which will be available to a limited number of guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Club SRO is designed for JoCo Cruise guests who don't need or want to attend the onboard main concerts (e.g., crowd-averse folks, nerd-adjacent spouses, sixteen-hour-a-day dungeon masters, etc.).
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-club-sro

People who join Club SRO will not have guaranteed seating at the evening main concerts in the ship's Mainstage Theater, and instead have the following options:

  • wait until five minutes after “morning announcements” have begun for a given main concert, at which point they may occupy any open seats, if available (JoCo Cruise staff will direct this process);
  • watch the show via live simulcast in the B.B. King's Blues Club; or
  • watch the main concert later on via the “JoCo TV” menu on your stateroom TV. (All JoCo Cruise main concerts are uploaded to the “JoCo TV menu the following day.)

Club SRO members will each receive a $125 credit to their onboard stateroom accounts.

Further information can be found in the Club SRO section of our FAQ.

If you are interested in signing up for Club SRO on JoCo Cruise 2022, please fill out our online “I Want to Join Club SRO” application. Separate applications must be submitted for each individual seeking to join Club SRO.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdWPVWnxMEhpiLgYY6_l94rNUdDUaLMo0Or0OhvWn0vOyBmWQ/viewform

NOTE: completing this form DOES NOT guarantee membership in Club SRO; you will be contacted by the Home Office regarding your Club SRO status, and with additional information as applicable. Again, numbers are limited; first-come, first-served.

Salutations / Pronouns

The Nieuw Amsterdam defaults to using “Mr.” or “Ms.“ when addressing guests in written communication, based on the gender listed on one's travel documents. If you prefer the ship use a different salutation from the above to address you in correspondence, please fill out our Salutation Change Request form.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5O0SjC4kknMl-r6sLgEo0Ew9JtiuRsXH5LJ_cyh5HF4ILxA/viewform

Making these changes is a manual process for JoCo Cruise and the ship. PLEASE do not submit spurious, “joke” or vanity requests to change prefix.

Shadow TV

Every stateroom TV on the Nieuw Amsterdam has on-demand programming, allowing us to make available rebroadcasts of Mainstage performances and events, some movies and shows of our choosing, and even pictures of cats.

And as with previous years, one of these on-demand “channels” will be dedicated to passenger-created content—“Shadow TV”. Have you made something you think the other attendees would enjoy watching? Use the Shadow TV Channel Content Submission Form to submit original content for broadcast on board.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdill-tMY_YTovFKNmUgwqcVxmS2dQjW2RBS81Eh_jdE4t1Ow/viewform

[June 4, 2021] Zoom Dance Party - June 11th!

Summer is almost upon us, and everyone's looking for fun stuff to do. Luckily, JoCo Cruise has the perfect solution, coming Friday, June 11th:

The JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 National Corn on the Cob Day Zoom Dance Partybration*!

The Zoom Dance Party was one of the biggest hits of the Virtual Cruise event, and we knew as soon as it was done that we'd want to do another one. And the US is celebrating National Corn on the Cob Day on June 11th, so we figured the two were an obvious, perfect match! (Rumors that we scheduled the event for June 11th and only afterward realized that it was National Corn of the Cob Day are scurrilous and untrue.)

So on Friday, June 11, 2021, from 10pm - 1am Eastern, please join us on the (virtual) dance floor while DJ Riz Rollins spins for three solid hours, and we celebrate corn on the cob in the appropriate manner—through dance!—by clicking on these words right here.
https://jococruise.zoom.us/j/93486684647?pwd=WXhGaXRuWklScW1CNTh0bUFidHZvdz09#success

This dance party will be held via Zoom, so you'll need to have that installed on your computer or device; feel free to turn your camera on if you'd like to be visible to other participants. No need to pre-register or anything; just show up and be ready to dance! And please remember that the JoCo Cruise Code of Conduct applies to all Virtual Cruise events (re: content, nudity, harassment, etc.).

Dance dance dance!

THO.

*Technically, the full name of the event is “The JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 National Corn on the Cob Day and National German Chocolate Cake Zoom Dance Partybration”, because June 11th is also National German Chocolate Cake Day. But we felt that was a little too excessive to list out. Nonetheless, please feel free to also celebrate German Chocolate Cake during this event.

JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 - Feedback Survey

Thanks again to everyone who attended this past week's JoCo Virtual Cruise event! Don't forget—whether there's an Official Event you missed, or you just want to go back and watch something again, the Official Events will be available for viewing until May 1st. JoCo Cruise 2022 is 90% Sold Out

As previously noted, booking for JoCo Cruise 2022 opened this past Wednesday, and the response was overwhelming. At this point, our 2022 cruise is 90% sold out, and cabins continue moving daily. If you know people interested in booking, let them know they should act sooner rather than later.

[April 13, 2021] JoCo Cruise 2022 Booking Opens TOMORROW - Wednesday, April 14th

2022 Booking Opens Wednesday, April 14th

The wait is over! Starting on Wednesday, April 14th at 1 pm EDT, booking will once again be available for JoCo Cruise 2022. Come join us March 5-12, 2022 aboard Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam and another year of music, comedy, creativity, fun and nerdery at sea.

Our 2022 Overview page has a rundown of our ports of call (Nassau, St. Croix and Half Moon Cay), important dates, ship info and other neat stuff. (There's PDFs!!!) Have a look at the 2022 Pricing Page to see what cabin types are currently available. You can also review the currently available discounts, our deposit deadlines, cancellation policy and more.

https://jococruise.com/pricing/
https://jococruise.com/pricing/#discounts

https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-your-cancellation-policy

To book, go to https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/book/
(this link will be active once booking opens at 1 pm EDT tomorrow.)

If you have an existing JoCo Cruise User Account, you'll need to log into that account during the booking process. (If you don't use your correct existing User Account, it won't accurately reflect your cruise history and you may not receive the discounts you might be eligible for. Heavens forfend!) If you don't have a User Account, you'll be prompted to create one. If you don't recall your User Account information, please email booking@jococruise.com.

According to our records, your JoCo Cruise User Account name is <name>.

We strongly suggest you don't wait too long to book; many cabin types sell out very quickly. But don't fret: even if your preferred cabin type is currently unavailable, you can join the Wait List to be notified if and when the cabin type you want becomes available.

(First priority is given to those who are already booked, so completing a booking of any cabin type and joining the waitlist for your preferred cabin type will increase your chances of getting that preferred type. Some fees may apply; see our FAQ re: “downgrading.”)

Booking and Forms of Payment - IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and perceived cruise industry risks, PayPal and other financial institutions altered their underwriting policies. Unfortunately, those policies have left JoCo Cruise unable to process credit cards or PayPal transactions at this time. We regret any inconvenience this may cause; we know that many people prefer making these payments via credit card for various reasons, and if there were any way we could currently accept credit card transactions, we absolutely would.

However, JoCo Cruise will now be able to process ACH transfer payments. (The login is handled securely and directly within the JoCo Cruise booking/payment process, via Plaid.) More complete information regarding our booking/payment process will be added to the JoCo Cruise website and FAQ soon, and we will alert everyone when it has been posted.
https://plaid.com/

Plaid supports most major US-based financial institutions, as well as many smaller banks and credit unions (over 2000 institutions in total). However, it’s possible that your particular US-based financial institution may not be supported by Plaid. Additionally, our current Plaid integration (the specific information we require from the bank for transactions) may limit the bank and type of bank account users are able to connect, even if the bank is generally supported by Plaid.

All of this is to say: our online booking process currently can only be completed
properly via an ACH transfer from a US-based bank account.

Therefore, if any of the following apply:
*   If you don't have a US-based bank account
* If you know for certain your account cannot process ACH transfers
* If you know for certain your institution is not supported by Plaid
...and you wish to book JoCo Cruise 2022, please email us ASAP at booking@jococruise.com.
(Don't go through the online booking process.)

Similarly, If you attempt to process your JoCo Cruise payment and our Plaid integration
doesn't support your US-based financial institution, email booking@jococruise.com.

If you wish to join after having completed booking, you can fill out the JoCo Cruise 2022 “I Want to Join Club SRO” Application.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdWPVWnxMEhpiLgYY6_l94rNUdDUaLMo0Or0OhvWn0vOyBmWQ/viewform

(NOTE: placement requests will no longer be a part of the booking process as in previous years, but instead will be found in your User Account once your booking is completed. While Placement Requests in your User Account may not be functional immediately, we promise it will be SOON™, and you can add your placement requests as soon as the option is available. If you email us your placement requests, we will just shrug and point back at this paragraph.)

[April 6, 2021] JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 Schedule

JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 Schedule

Here we go—the schedule for the JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021 is now open for business! Tell anyone and everyone you know who might be interested, since it's 100% free to attend!

We've built the Virtual Cruise as a fun collection of many of our “greatest hits.” Concerts, panels, gaming, Shadow Cruise events, dance parties, a Fancy Pants Parade—the many things you love about JoCo Cruise, packed together and streamed over the Netterwebs for your socially-distanced convenience! If you miss being on JoCo Cruise (we certainly do!), hopefully this will tide you over until we're all able to Boat in person again in 2022.

Event Schedule: https://jocovirtualcruise2021.sched.com/
Main Overview page: https://jococruise.com/virtualcruise

As with previous JoCo Cruises, the week's schedule can be found on Sched. Links to an event's livestream and event descriptions can be found in the event's Sched listing; you also can open your own (free) Sched account to track all the events you're interested in on your own “My Sched” page.

Official Events

  • Official Events will be livestreamed via YouTube*. Click on the “Video Stream” button in the event's Sched listing to view it in YouTube and participate in the live chat. They'll also stream live on our Main Overview page.
  • Official Events will be available for later viewing until May 1st, so if you miss one when it's live, you'll have a chance to catch up later.

Shadow Cruise and Sponsor Events

  • Shadow Cruise and Sponsor Events events will be livestreamed via Zoom*. Click on the “Open Zoom” button in the event's Sched listing to join a session.
  • You will need the Zoom app on your computer or device to participate in a Zoom event, but you do not need to have or create a Zoom account.
  • Shadow Cruise and Sponsor Events will not be archived by JoCo Cruise; if the person running a Shadow Cruise Event wishes to record their event, they must notify all participants at the start, and pin a message stating so to the top of the session's chat.

Code of Conduct

  • All participants in the JoCo Virtual Cruise are expected to abide by the JoCo Cruise Code of Conduct. JoCo Cruise Helpers and moderators will be on hand at all events to help monitor and moderate chat sessions. If you have been the victim of a Code of Conduct violation, please contact the event moderator, or email conduct@jococruise.com.

*with one or two exceptions

Comedy Night - Join the Audience!

Comedy shows, as you might guess, work best when there's an actual audience reacting and laughing. Our Comedy Night event will be a Zoom meeting that is then livestreamed to our YouTube channel, featuring not only comedians Myq Kaplan, Jackie Kashian and Joyelle Nicole Johnson, but also a select group invited to take part in the session as the “in person” audience!

To be considered for audience selection, add the Comedy Night event to your My Sched page. (Setting up a Sched account is easy and free.) Audience members will be notified prior to the event with further instructions. If selected, your laughter will be audible to the stream, but you will be only visible to the comedians, not to the main viewing audience.

[March 29, 2021] Virtual Cruise Helpers; Fancy Pants Parade and Merch Store Reminders

Virtual Cruise Helpers Needed

From the Desk of Cruise Mom Thera:

Would you like to Help (with a capital “H”) during our Virtual Cruise event? We’re in need of moderation help! Some extra hands on some extra keyboards would be a wonderful support, especially if those hands are connected to kind, smart, and empathetic brains.

Participation in the JoCo Cruise Discord is helpful, but not required. We will have a channel there for questions, support, and general merriment.
https://discord.com/invite/dVT3E3raAc

We’re looking for two kinds of help:

  1. YouTube Moderation: Keep an eye on the fast-paced chat during officially scheduled events, answering questions, having fun, and keeping the conversation on track. Previous experience moderating YouTube chats is helpful here, but not required.

https://store.dftba.com/collections/joco-cruise

Additional items will debut as 2021 progresses, so keep your eyes out for more cool clothing and collectibles.

REMINDER: Virtual Fancy Pants Parade Submissions!

We'll be honest with you, folks: we've only received one single entry so far for the Virtual Cruise Fancy Pants Parade. We have no particular objection to this—a parade is a parade, no matter how long or short it is—but Jonathan has been nigh-inconsolable over it. And as it currently stands, it's not going to be much of a challenge for said entrant to win the Best in Terms of Pants trophy.

So if you're still interested, get us your Fancy Pants videos by March 31st!

  • Film yourself parading around in your fanciest pants.
  • Use a (preferably still) camera/phone filming in landscape (horizontal) mode.
  • Enter from the right side of the screen; exit to the left of the screen. (Whatever you do between those two actions is your business.)
  • Videos no longer than ten seconds, please; we reserve the right to edit videos longer than ten seconds.
  • Submit your video, no later than March 31st, using our Virtual Fancy Pants Parade Form.
    • Please do not send us your video via email, thankyouverymuch.

Updated User Account URL

A quick heads-up, in case you missed it elsewhere: the URL to access your JoCo Cruise User Account has changed recently. It's now https://book.jococruise.com/2022/#/account/

So if you have the old one bookmarked, edit that bookmark!

[March 16, 2021] New JoCo Cruise Merch Store! And Livestream Event Thanks

Brand New JoCo Cruise Merch Store OPEN NOW

On previous JoCo Cruises, you'd preorder our merch a few months before each sailing, and you'd receive your order once on board; and sales were limited to only people booked on that particular JoCo Cruise.

Well, no more waiting! We've partnered up with the exceedingly nice people at DFTBA (the distribution company started by Hank and John Green) to present the all-new JoCo Cruise Merch Store! Now anyone can purchase JoCo Cruise merchandise, and you won't have to wait until the actual cruise to get it!
https://store.dftba.com/collections/joco-cruise

In addition to a number of items using our JoCo Cruise 2021 artwork by Annie Wu, we've taken the step—seemingly inevitable, in hindsight—of introducing official Soon™ merchandise. That's right, The Home Office's mantra is now a wearable item!
https://www.anniewuart.com/

Additional items will debut as 2021 progresses, so keep your eyes out for more cool clothing and collectibles.

Did You Watch the “Sail Away…NOT” Livestream?

Thanks to everyone who joined us, along with special guests Molly Lewis and Jean Grae, for the “JoCo Cruise 2021 Sail Away…NOT!!!” livestream. If you missed it, it'll be still available for viewing at bit.ly/SailAwayNOT through March 21st. If you want to know what the heck people are referring to when they say “EGYPE” or “seedless abomination,” the answers can be found there.

  • Film yourself parading around in your fanciest pants.
    • Use a (preferably still) camera/phone filming in landscape (horizontal) mode.

UPDATE Re: Balance Payments and Deadlines

Without burdening anyone with the gritty details, online ACH transfer payments for existing bookings will be available Monday, March 15th (a week later than previously announced). Basically, we found a more efficient method of processing these transactions (both for you and for us), but need a few more days to complete testing.

Accordingly, the next deadline for the next minimum payment has also been moved a week later, to Monday, March 22nd. All other payment deadlines remain the same as they have been.

In case you don't know what we're talking about when we refer to “ACH,” please see our previous email—the relevant section is excerpted below:
https://mailchi.mp/c0bd55fc00c2/joco-virtual-cruise-5040798

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and perceived cruise industry risks, PayPal and other financial institutions altered their underwriting policies. Unfortunately, those policies have left JoCo Cruise unable to process credit cards or PayPal transactions at this time. We regret any inconvenience this may cause; we know that many people prefer making these payments via credit card for various reasons, and if there were any way we could currently accept credit card transactions, we absolutely would.

However, JoCo Cruise will now be able to process ACH transfer payments. (The login is handled securely and directly within the JoCo Cruise booking/payment process, via Plaid.) More complete information regarding our booking/payment process will be added to the JoCo Cruise website and FAQ soon, and we will alert everyone when it has been posted. https://plaid.com/

Our system will support ACH transfers from most major US & Canada-based financial institutions, as well as many smaller banks and credit unions (over 2,000 in total); if when you enter our payment process you find that your particular US/Canada financial institution is not supported, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

JoCo Cruise will be directly contacting all current 2022 bookings with a non-US/Canada home country listed whose balance is not already paid in full. If your booking is in this category and you don’t receive this email in the next 48 hours, or if you otherwise don't have a US/Canadian bank account, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

THO.

Booking Payments: Some Important Updates

We have a few very important updates to our policy regarding payments for your JoCo Cruise 2022 booking…

1. Payment Deadline Change
The deadline for the next minimum payment (an additional $500 per person), which had been March 1, 2021, has moved to March 15, 2021. All other payment deadlines remain unchanged.

2. Payment Reopens March 8th
We have been undergoing a thorough revamping of the booking and payment system's underlying code; we thank you for your patience while this has taken place. (Drew has been typing furiously for weeks on end, and for some reason has taken to wearing a hard hat. But we can attest that he looks very good in safety orange.) But the construction cones are slowly starting to clear, and we expect to reopen our booking payment system on March 8, 2021.

3. Forms of Payment

2022 Itinerary Update

FYI, there've been a few changes to our 2022 itinerary—still hitting all the same ports of call, just a few date and time changes.

The updated JoCo Cruise 2022 itinerary is:

  • Sat 3/5 (Day 1): Fort Lauderdale (depart 5 pm)
  • Sun. 3/6 (Day 2): Nassau, Bahamas (8 am – 2:30 pm)
  • Mon. 3/7 (Day 3): At Sea
  • Tue. 3/8 (Day 4): Frederiksted, St. Croix, USVI (1 pm – 8 pm)
  • Wed. 3/9 (Day 5): At Sea
  • Thu. 3/10 (Day 6): At Sea
  • Fri. 3/11 (Day 7): Half Moon Cay (8 am – 3 pm)
  • Sat. 3/12 (Day 8): Return to Fort Lauderdale (7 am)

One important note: the continuing uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic makes it impossible to adequately plan for our intended St. Croix land concert event. While we share everyone's sadness that there will be no land concert next year, we assure you that THO will continue working diligently to make JoCo Cruise 2022 as exciting and fun as anyone could hope for. We appreciate your understanding and continued general awesomeness.

[January 21, 2021] 2021 Virtual Cruise - New (and Improved) Dates!

We have to level with you: between January’s events in Washington, DC and the ongoing pandemic surge, the first two-thirds of the month were pretty rough on everyone here at the ol’ Home Office. (We’re pretty sure we’re not unique in this regard.)

The long and the short of it is, in order to give you the awesome Virtual Cruise you truly deserve, we need a little more time to gather up ducks and plop them into neat little rows. (These are not metaphorical ducks; the Virtual Cruise will run on a large series of duck-powered treadmills.)

As such, the 2021 Virtual Cruise will now take place on Saturday, April 10 - Wednesday, April 14, 2021. (Working motto: “Same cruise, warmer dates”) We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.

Otherwise, the general shape of the event remains the same as before. To wit:

  • Official featured events each evening
  • Other official events, hangouts, Shadow Cruise events and gaming all day Saturday and Sunday
  • 100% FREE for anyone and everyone to attend! (Well, you know…“attend.”)

But fret not! To honor the originally-scheduled sailing date of JoCo Cruise 2021, we still have a fun (albeit smaller scale) online event in the works for the evening of Saturday, March 6th. Details on that will be forthcoming, but, you know…save the date.

And wait, there’s more! In answer to the question you may not have even known you had: yes, there will be JoCo Cruise 2021 merchandise! Just because a global pandemic had other plans for our physical sailing this year, JoCo Cruise 2021 still lives inside all our hearts, and will live on in t-shirts, pins, posters and other cool stuff that we can wear outside our hearts(1)! The full store will be opening Soon™, but in the meantime, check out the awesome poster art, by our friend Annie Wu…

[December 10, 2020] JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021

A worldwide pandemic may have prevented the physical sailing of JoCo Cruise 2021 from happening, but the spirit of JoCo Cruise SHALL NOT BE DENIED OR CONTAINED(1). As such, we at The Home Office have uploaded our collective consciousness to the cloud(2), and JoCo Cruise is going to ride the ones and zeros as JoCo Virtual Cruise 2021.

  • Saturday, March 6 – Wednesday, March 10, 2021
  • Official featured events each evening
  • Other official events, hangouts, Shadow Cruise events and gaming all day Saturday and Sunday
  • 100% FREE for anyone and everyone to attend! (Well, you know…“attend.”)

We’ve set up the official JoCo Virtual Cruise Discord server, which will act as our main moderated community space during the event, and it’s ALREADY UP AND RUNNING! (If you haven’t used Discord before, it’s a free, dedicated social space for both text and voice discussions that’s accessible via any web browser, or via its own dedicated app.)
https://discord.gg/dVT3E3raAc

To join the JoCo Virtual Cruise Discord server, use this link: https://discord.gg/dVT3E3raAc. (It will prompt you to create a Discord account if you don’t have one.) The JoCo Cruise Forums also stand at the ready for all of your planning and collective dreaming needs.

https://forums.jococruise.com/

Lots and lots and lots more information (including a more detailed schedule, details for submitting Shadow Cruise events, and much more) coming Soon™. (Early-ish Jan. 2021?) We know many of you will have questions, and we hope/expect our next “big info dump” will answer most of them. You're already on the JoCo Cruise Mailing List, so you'll get the latest info on our Virtual Cruise as soon as it becomes available. Info can also be found at the JoCo Virtual Cruise web page. (This email is, more or less, the current content of that page repackaged in email form.)

In the meantime, everyone please have a fantastic and safe holiday season!

THO.

[July 23, 2020] JoCo Cruise 2021 Rescheduled to March 5-12, 2022

JoCo Cruise 2021 is Rescheduled to 2022

The safety and well-being of our attendees, crew and performing guests are of the utmost importance to us in the JoCo Cruise Management. As such, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to reschedule JoCo Cruise 2021 to March 5-12, 2022.

What does this mean to you specifically? As a member of the JoCo Cruise Mailing List, we felt it’s relevant to your interests to know that public booking for JoCo Cruise 2022 will begin much earlier than in previous years. When we launched booking for 2020, half the ship was booked in the first few weeks, and certain cabin categories sold out very quickly, and since the existing bookings for the 2021 cruise are transferring directly to the 2022 dates, cabins will be that much more scarce. So you may want to start to think about your 2022 plans sooner rather than later, as booking early will be your best opportunity to save a spot, for a modest deposit.

The basics:

  • JoCo Cruise 2022
  • March 5-12, 2022
  • on Holland America's ms Nieuw Amsterdam
  • from Fort Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, St. Croix, and Nassau

We will give everyone a big, loud heads-up when booking will open for JoCo Cruise 2022. And if you’ve sailed with us previously and have a JoCo Cruise User Account, we’ll send you a specialized link for booking JoCo Cruise 2022 that will automatically carry all applicable booking discounts. But in the meantime, please feel free to see our Pricing Page for prices and availability, discounts, deposit schedule, etc.
https://jococruise.com/pricing/

The Home Office is also brewing up various ideas in the coming months for different shenanigans, hijinks, tomfoolery, and goings-on to help us all pass the time between now and Go Time. And everyone is invited! So watch this space.

[July 23, 2020] JoCo Cruise 2021 is Rescheduled to 2022

JoCo Cruise 2021 is Rescheduled to 2022

The safety and well-being of our attendees, crew and performing guests are of the utmost importance to us in the JoCo Cruise Management. As such, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to reschedule JoCo Cruise 2021 to March 5-12, 2022.

(If you prefer a more “nerdy” metaphor: JoCo Cruise 2021 is stepping into a wormhole, TARDIS, portal, black hole, timequake, Neverwhere, or other timey-wimey device or anomaly, and will be re-emerging on March 5, 2022 with the fresh appellation of “JoCo Cruise 2022”.)

There are a lot of details involved with this event reschedule. The latter portion of this email has more details and links that should address most questions. But here is the TL;DR version of the really important stuff:

  • Our ship (the Nieuw Amsterdam), departure port (Port Everglades, FL) and itinerary (Half Moon Cay, St. Croix, and Nassau) remain the same as before.
  • All existing bookings remain unchanged—besides, obviously, now occurring in 2022 instead of 2021—and can still be accessed via your User Account. https://booking.jococruise.com/2022/account/
  • The next minimum deposit won’t be due until March 2021. (i.e., no longer August 2020)
  • If you can’t join us in 2022, you can convert your existing deposit balance to a 2023 Future Cruise Credit on JoCo Cruise 2023.
  • If you wish to cancel and decline a Future Cruise Credit, you can still cancel for a full refund without penalty through October 1, 2020.

[cue “During these difficult times…” slow piano music]

We would just like to thank you all once again for sticking with us throughout…*waves arms*…all this. Speaking both as members of this wonderful community and as people running a small business during a worldwide pandemic, we cannot overstate how much your collective continued faith, support and enthusiasm means to us all.

We’re also brewing up various ideas for different shenanigans, hijinks, tomfoolery, and goings-on to help us all pass the time between now and Go Time. So watch this space!

Never tell us the odds…

Important Questions You May Have, and Answers to Them

I’m happy to keep my 2022 booking! What do I need to know?

First of all, thanks for being here! We love you so much!

You don’t have to do anything at all to retain your existing booking—POOF! It’s already been auto-magically confrabulized into a 2022 booking! Hooray!

For your reference, your new booking number is «BookingID». (This info can also be found in your User Account.) https://booking.jococruise.com/2022/account/

https://jococruise.com/pricing/#deadlines
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-your-cancellation-policy

I can’t or don’t wish to keep my booking for these new 2022 dates. What are my options?

If you can’t join us for 2022, you can do one of two things:

  • We can provide you with a 2023 Future Cruise Credit (23FCC) to be applied to JoCo Cruise 2023.
    • If you select a 23FCC before August 1, 2021, you’ll receive a credit for the full amount of your existing deposits paid.
    • If you select a 23FCC on or after August 1, 2021, cancellation fees may apply, and will be deducted from your existing deposits paid before your 23FCC is issued.
    • Please see our 23FCC FAQ for full terms, conditions and details on this program. https://jococruise.com/23fcc
  • You can cancel your booking for a refund. If you cancel on or before October 1, 2020, you will receive a full refund; after that date, cancellation fees may apply. See our Cancellation Policy for complete details. https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-your-cancellation-policy

Note that per the above, the “window” for a penalty-free 23FCC is nearly ten months longer than that of a penalty-free refund.

Please contact us at booking@jococruise.com in either case, and we’ll be happy to get you sorted. But please do understand that we may be receiving a high volume of inquiries during the next few weeks. We will do our best to get back to you and process your booking changes ASAP.

I have requested a refund; how long will it take JoCo Cruise to process that?

Per our Cancellation Policy, refunds should be processed within 45 days of initial request. https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-your-cancellation-policy

I purchased travel insurance for my 2021 booking. What happens with that?

Whether you choose to sail with us in 2022 or cancel (either for a 23FCC or a refund), you should contact your travel insurance provider directly to review their policies and terms regarding transferring your policy or canceling and getting a refund on your premium.

Your booking page for 2022 is currently not active. What’s up with that?

We’ve temporarily closed new bookings for several reasons; primarily, we expect to be very busy for the next few weeks managing this change, as we answer questions and process booking updates. We want to dedicate ourselves fully to helping existing attendees; we’re also taking this time to complete the changeover of the many pages and elements of our website, and are doing some long-deferred “under the hood” maintenance. Once all that has been taken care of, we’ll open up for new 2022 bookings. (And we’ll give everyone plenty of notice, so that you can tell all your family and friends to come join us!)

[June 23, 2020] JoCo Cruise Community Nickname

JoCo Cruise Community Nickname

After our 2020 cruise, we solicited feedback from the JoCo Cruise community regarding JoCo Cruise’s “Sea Monkey” nickname, in light of the troubling history of “monkey” as a racial slur. We thank the hundreds of community members who shared their feedback.

Based on this feedback and internal discussions, the JoCo Cruise Management has decided to no longer use “Sea Monkey” and other monkey-themed nicknames when referring to JoCo Cruise community members going forward. Regardless of their origin or intent, these names hold hurtful racially-charged connotations for many in our community. After considering all the feedback and consulting with a diverse range of people, we’ve concluded that to ignore this issue would prevent JoCo Cruise from being a safe and welcoming space for all attendees.

We’ve already begun work to remove this language from our website and future official materials, and appreciate your patience as this process continues.

We don’t have a new “official” nickname for JoCo Cruisers—in fact, we’re not certain it’s our place to assign one, nor to “bless” one of the several that have been in circulation since we began addressing this issue.

JoCo Cruise has changed and evolved in many ways over the years—including the very name of the event—and it will continue to do so. One thing that has remained consistent throughout is the thoughtfulness and enthusiasm of the JoCo Cruise community. Thank you for contributing to this spirit year after year.

Jonathan, Paul, Storm and Drew (The Management)

The above statement can also be found on our website; if there are any further updates regarding this issue, they will be posted on that page.

[May 13, 2020] Revised Schedules for Cancellation Policy and Deposits

Hi again, pax. (“Pax” is travel business lingo for “passengers.” And we sure do love using lingo, so…) News time again.

Cancellation Policy and Deposit Schedule Changes

As COVID-19 continues to morph everyone's schedules, plans and situations into large, amorphous question marks, we continue to monitor the situation and remain in regular communication with our associates at Holland America and other travel industry partners and contacts.

In the meantime, we also continue to all navigate together toward JoCo Cruise 2021. (“Navigate?” Get it? …nautical.) And as a part of that process, in order to give folks additional “breathing room” during the Current Uncertainty, we have revised our cancellation policy schedule and our deposit schedule.

1. Cancellation Policy

Most importantly, we have extended our “penalty-free cancellation” window: you can now cancel your JoCo Cruise 2021 booking at any time without penalty through October 1, 2020. We've also delayed the dates at which increased cancellation fees apply.

The full, revised cancellation fee schedule, which can also be found in our FAQ, is as follows:
https://jococruise.com/faq/#what-is-your-cancellation-policy

  • Cancellation on or before October 1, 2020: Full refund
  • Cancellation from October 2 through November 30, 2020: $500 per person
  • Cancellation from December 1, 2020 through January 15, 2021: 50% of the total booking price
  • Cancellation on or after January 16, 2021: 100% of the total booking price (no refund)

2. Deposit Schedule

Below is the revised minimum deposit schedule for JoCo Cruise 2021 (it can also be found on our Pricing Page):
https://jococruise.com/pricing/#deadlines

  • Due at time of booking: $500 per person
    • For those who qualified for a reduced initial deposit or who booked while onboard JoCo Cruise 2020, a total of $500 per person is due by May 28, 2020
  • by August 1, 2020: an additional $500 per person (i.e., a total to date of $1000 per person)
  • by October 1, 2020: an additional $500 per person (i.e., a total to date of $1500 per person)
  • by January 15, 2021: remaining balance in full

Thank you all again for believing in JoCo Cruise over the years. It literally continues to support us as planning for 2021 (and beyond!) goes forward. As noted above, we also remain in constant touch with our cruise industry contacts, and continue monitoring their plans and progress toward the necessary measures required to ensure a safe and healthy return to the seas for everyone.

All that said, we absolutely understand the many and serious ways the COVID-19 outbreak is affecting people, including financially. So if you’re currently experiencing financial hardship due to the effects of this pandemic that may affect your ability to make upcoming deposits, but still definitely wish to attend JoCo Cruise 2021, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

[April 9, 2020] Some Revised Deadlines; #CruiseInPlace

Hello, all! We know JoCo Cruise 2021 is still quite far away, but we wanted to alert you to a few items of note. Viz:

Some Revised Deadlines

The deadline for cancelling your JoCo Cruise 2021 booking for a full refund (previously April 30, 2020) has been moved to May 28, 2020.

Additionally, the following deposit deadlines have also been moved to May 28, 2020:

  • Deposits due for people who filled out 2021 Onboard Booking forms while on the 2020 cruise
  • Additional $400 per person due for 2021 bookings made by JoCo Cruise 2020 passengers on or before March 6th

(NOTE: the existing May 28th deposit deadline of an additional $500/person still remains in place; in other words, by May 28th you will need to have deposited a minimum of $1000/person toward your booking.)

You are, of course, still encouraged to make deposits at any time; but to the extent we can, we wanted to give a little more “breathing room” those who may need it—particularly for anyone whose work and/or financial situations have been made more difficult by the COVID-19 outbreak.

#CruiseInPlace

We know people are looking for ways to feel connected while we collectively “ride out” this situation. We'll be using the hashtag #CruiseInPlace on our various social media accounts to note JoCo Cruise-related events, performances, fundraising efforts, etc.—particularly (though not exclusively) fundraisers and events in reaction to the pandemic. Keep an eye out for them if you're looking for hangouts, things to do, ways to help, and so forth.

Here's just a few current examples:

  • Vance Gilbert has been holding an ongoing “Vance Gilbert’s Monday Night Acoustic Pajama Party” series, with a portion of proceeds from each event going to help various charities. Check Vance's Twitter feed for info. https://twitter.com/vancegilbert
  • Charlie Jane Anders has been working with SF Bay-area book lovers to hold a series of online readings and conversations to collect funds for area local bookstores - https://welovebookstores.org/.
  • The Thrilling Adventure Hour—created by 2014 alums Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, and featuring JoCo Cruise alums Janet Varney, Hal Lublin, Mark Gagliardi, Paul F. Tompkins and Craig Cackowski—is doing a live streaming show this coming Saturday (April 11) to benefit food banks in LA, NY, Seattle, Detroit, NOLA, & more. Tix: http://bit.ly/TAHLive411.
  • Jim Boggia has a Facebook Live streaming concert this coming Sunday (Apr. 12). https://www.facebook.com/events/2842572609193300/
  • Comedian Maria Bamford has an ongoing series of “New Material” shows, helping to raise funds for L.A.'s Downtown Women's Center. See her Twitter feed for details. https://twitter.com/mariabamfoo
  • The Doubleclicks have an ongoing series of streaming concerts and gaming sessions, including appearances by Molly Lewis and other JoCo Cruise alums. https://www.thedoubleclicks.com/
  • John Hodgman hosts a daily event, “Get Your Pets”, on his Instagram feed, chatting with pets and their owners. https://www.instagram.com/johnhodgman/

This is by no means a comprehensive list; keep an eye on the JoCo Cruise social media accounts for additional #CruiseInPlace mentions—or feel free to post your own!

[March 19, 2020] Special Updates Regarding 2020 and 2021

Special Updates Regarding 2020 and 2021

We at the Home Office haven't stopped playing “catch-up” since disembarking this past weekend. Busy as it's been, we're sensitive to the fact that many people have questions regarding our 2020 and 2021 cruises.

In the interest of creating a central source for answers to some of the more common questions we've received, and to highlight some important new information, we've created our Special Updates Regarding 2020 and 2021 web page.
https://jococruise.com/updates/

It includes our most current information regarding the following topics:

We'll update this when there are changes to share. We thank you, as always, for your continued patience and understanding as we all roll with this unprecedented and evolving world situation.

Thank you all,

[February 25, 2020] Revised JoCo Cruise 2021 Itinerary

We have revised our JoCo Cruise 2021 itinerary. The ports of call are now Half Moon Cay, St. Croix (USVI), and Nassau (Bahamas).

St. Croix replaces our original port stop in Falmouth, Jamaica. After learning of the particularly troubling legacy of LGBTQ+ discrimination and violence in Jamaica, we considered all of your feedback, and consulted with cruise industry experts and with J-FLAG, Jamaica's largest LGBTQ+ rights organization. Although we received assurances that tourist groups visiting Jamaica have historically been physically safe, our concerns remained. Furthermore, it’s against our values that LGBTQ+ individuals would feel jeopardized in Falmouth if they expressed their identities.

We should have been aware of these issues with Jamaica before we announced, and we are very sorry that we were not. This was a blindspot on our part, and we will work to do better in the future when vetting ports.

We’re currently working on plans to hold our Land Concert in St. Croix, and we’ll update you when we have more information.

The JoCo Cruise Management

[February 14, 2020] A Message from Jonathan Coulton

Hey everyone, this is Jonathan.

After we announced our 2021 itinerary yesterday, we heard from many people who have serious concerns about visiting Jamaica—specifically, its especially problematic track record on LGBTQ+ issues. I want to let you know that we hear you loud and clear. I’m ashamed to say that despite our extensive due diligence while choosing this itinerary, we were unaware of the anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment and laws in Jamaica. I want to own and apologize for this blindspot right now: we should have done better, and we will work to learn from this and do better in the future. I’m sorry.

Right now, we are listening to and reading the feedback we've received, evaluating our options, and figuring out what our next steps are. But I want to assure you that it’s extremely important to all of us that JoCo Cruise remains a safe and fun event where everyone can fully express who they are—especially the many members of the LGBTQ+ community who embrace JoCo Cruise and are a core part of our collective identity. We won’t always get things right, and we rely on all of you to let us know when we don’t. So thank you, as always, for your clear and thoughtful responses.

The JoCo Cruise 2021 ship and sailing dates remain unchanged, and booking remains open. We’ll update you as soon as we have more information.

Thank you,

Jonathan and the JoCo Cruise Management

[February 13, 2020] JoCo Cruise 2021 Itinerary

JoCo Cruise 2021 Itinerary

We're very, very happy to announce our ports of call for JoCo Cruise 2021:

  • Falmouth, Jamaica
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Half Moon Cay

We last visited Jamaica back in 2014; for 2021, we're planning for the Falmouth cruiseport to be the site of this year's Land Concert event. Literally two minutes from the gangway to the stage! Plus, during the day you can explore Jamaica's beautiful north shore, have an adventure on land or water, and partake in Jamaica's best export: relaxation.

Nassau is a brand new destination for us. In the quaint-yet-bustling capital city of the Bahamas, you can enjoy shopping in the historic town, have a fun beach day on Paradise Island, or trace the footsteps of the legendary pirate Edward Teach a.k.a. Blackbeard. (Which is easy to do, because he tracked sand around EVERYWHERE.)

For our final port of call, we return to Half Moon Cay, consistently one of our Sea Monkey(Δ)s' favorite destinations. Here on HAL's private island—that’s also a protected nature preserve!—enjoy snorkeling, horseback riding and many other fun excursions; belly up to the pirate ship bar (add as many r's to “bar” as you deem appropriate); or just chill and enjoy the gorgeous white sand beaches.

JoCo Cruise 2021 Itinerary

  • Sat. 3/6 (Day 1): Fort Lauderdale (depart 4 pm)
  • Sun. 3/7 (Day 2): At Sea
  • Mon. 3/8 (Day 3): Falmouth, Jamaica (10 am - 12 midnight)
  • Tue. 3/9 (Day 4): At Sea
  • Wed. 3/10 (Day 5): Nassau, Bahamas (2 pm - 12 midnight)
  • Thu. 3/11 (Day 6): At Sea
  • Fri. 3/12 (Day 7): Half Moon Cay (8 am - 3 pm)
  • Sat. 3/13 (Day 8): Arrive Fort Lauderdale 7 am

Your JCC2021 Booking ID is jc11_XXXXXX

Your JoCo Cruise User Account:

You can access your account at https://jococruise.com/2021/account/

Your payment:

If discounts have been applied for which you're ineligible, we will update your balance due and notify you. If you did not receive a discount for which you are eligible, please email us at booking@jococruise.com and we’ll get it straightened out for you!

Wait list

If your preferred cabin type was sold out, you may add yourself to the wait list for any cabin type. “Sold Out” cabins may occasionally become available due to cancellations, inventory adjustment, etc.; we will notify you (on a first-come, first-served basis) if any cabins in your desired category (or categories) become available.
https://jococruise.com/2021-wait-list/

What happens next?

Later this year, you'll receive instructions to complete the Holland America Online Check-In process (including a Holland America Booking Number, which is different from your JoCo Cruise Booking ID), which will allow you to print your boarding documents, set up your Onboard Expense Account, and so forth.

Passport/travel documents

Please make sure all parties traveling have passports (or equivalent proof of citizenship/travel documentation—visit the Holland America FAQ (under “Cruise Preparation”) to see what type of travel documentation will be required for you) valid for the duration of the cruise. DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to get your travel documentation in order.
https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/faq.html

Travel arrangements: flights, hotels, shuttles, and getting to the ship

In the coming weeks/months, we'll provide detailed and and helpful information for planning ahead for the 2021 JoCo Cruise. If you need to see options in the meantime, The 2020 Pre-Cruise and Post-Cruise Planning Page (for the cruise sailing in March of 2020, not 2021!) can provide a good baseline of things to expect (the dates are different though). NOTE: for 2021, JoCo Cruise will be not be arranging any special pre-cruise hotel rates/rooms for our passengers.
https://jococruise.com/pre-cruise/

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is not included in the JoCo Cruise 2021 cruise price, but we strongly suggest purchasing it through a third party. Each year there have been passengers who have needed to cancel for a wide variety of reasons (including adverse weather, cabinmates backing out, and unforeseen financial hardship), so we highly recommend it. For complete peace of mind, you may wish to consider a policy that allows “Cancel for Any Reason” coverage.

One travel insurance source we recommend is Yonder, which aggregates plans from many providers.
https://www.insureyonder.com/affiliate/JoCoCruise

While travel insurance can be purchased just about any time, the most flexible plans generally must be purchased within 14 days of your initial booking; some travel insurance policies require purchase within one day of booking in order to be covered for pre-existing conditions.

If you use our link to Yonder, you can select the United States as your destination; if you’ve used the above link, on the next screen it’ll automatically select “Cruise” for your type of trip further in the quote process.)

Get excited!

You know what? It's going to be great. Follow us on social media at @jococruise, on the website at www.jococruise.com, and via our reasonably-regular emails. One of our favorite parts about the cruise is watching the whole thing take shape as people like you get involved and make even more fun things happen. We'll alert you via email as exciting things come together, but we'll try not to be too spammy about it. Please respond to this email with any questions about your booking. If you have other questions or concerns, you can always reach us at info@jococruise.com, or you can call us at (256) 3-GO-JCCC ((256) 346-5222).

We'll be in touch soon. Thank you for booking!

The above link is customized to your existing JoCo Cruise User Account. It should automatically log you into your account, which in turn should automatically fill in some of your personal information during the booking process, and apply any relevant discounts to your booking, including any Returning Monkey(Δ) discount you may qualify for (assuming your account’s “Past Cruises” information is accurate).

The booking process will walk you through the necessary steps of choosing a cabin type, entering passenger information (yours should be pre-filled based on the information in your User Account), and submitting payment.

A Few Booking Notes

  • If you don't have complete information for the passengers in your booking, the system gives you the option to enter that information later, and/or to invite others to fill out their information on your booking.
    • PLEASE note that, to qualify for applicable discounts, you must submit deposits for all planned passengers in your cabin. For example, if you purchase a single occupancy cabin and later decide to upgrade to double occupancy, your added passenger may not be eligible for any or all of the currently-applicable discounts.
    • If others in your booking have an existing JoCo Cruise User Account, pretty please invite them to connect and log in via that account; doing so will keep their JoCo Cruise history accurate.
    • If they cruise with us regularly and do not yet have a User Account, please invite them to create one.
  • If your preferred cabin type is sold out, you may add yourself to the wait list for any cabin type. “Sold Out” cabins may occasionally become available due to cancellations, inventory adjustment, etc.; we will notify you if any cabins in your desired category (or categories) become available. https://jococruise.com/2021-wait-list/
    • NOTE: first priority goes to those on the wait list who are already booked on JoCo Cruise 2021, but are seeking to switch to another cabin category.
  • Finally, if you encounter any problems or issues during booking, or don't receive a discount you believe your booking qualifies for, please email us at booking@jococruise.com.

For now, we're only notifying you, the folks on our JoCo Cruise mailing list, so that you can get the “first crack” at booking before we announce it to the wide, wide world in early 2020.

Be forewarned: when JoCo Cruise 2020 booking launched, over half the ship was booked in the first few weeks, and certain cabin categories sold out VERY QUICKLY. And this will only increase once we more widely announce booking.

Here's the salient details:

Your initial deposit is as low as $100 per person, and is fully refundable through April 30, 2020 (see below). So there's truly no risk, and every reason to jump on this opportunity!

JoCo Cruise Carbon Road Map

After numerous months of researching the topic and consulting with experts, JoCo Cruise is proud to announce The JoCo Cruise Carbon Roadmap, our new initiative to mitigate our event's carbon footprint. https://jococruise.com/carbon/

Our Carbon Roadmap page provides an overview of the current steps we're taking and plan to take in the future, as well as a link to our comprehensive Carbon Strategy Roadmap whitepaper, which details a thorough breakdown of our strategy and the reasoning and science behind it.

The page also includes a link to a fundraising page where Sea Monkey(Δ)s (or anyone!) can donate to The Conservation Fund’s Upper Ouachita National Wildlife project, with the aim of mitigating the carbon cost of Sea Monkey(Δ) air travel to and from current and previous JoCo Cruises. https://tcf-businesspartnerships.everydayhero.com/us/joco-cruise-2020

JoCo Cruise 2021 - Save the Date!

Some Qs and some As:

Q: Will there be a JoCo Cruise 2021?
A: YES! 2021 will also be our 10th anniversary sailing, for the record.

Q: When will it be?
A: March 6-13, 2021.

Q: Where will it be sailing from?
A: Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Q: Wait—isn't 2020 the 10th sailing? So how can 2021 be the 10th anniversary?
A: Well, the day you get married isn't your first anniversary. Same thing with cruises: the 11th sailing (2021) is the 10th anniversary.

Q: Oh, I get it. Numbers are weird, huh?
A: Sometimes, yes.

Q: When will we find out about the itinerary and pricing and when booking opens?
A: Soon™.

Q: Okay, good talk. Thank you.
A: That's not really a question, but you're very welcome.

Happy end-of-the-year,

THO.
