JoCo Land Concert
PLAZA PUBLICA, LORETO
4PM- LATE (12:00AM)
FROM THE SHIP'S LONG-SUFFERING AND UNDERAPPRECIATED BUT ALSO SORT-OF-LAZY HISTORIAN:
The JoCo Cruise Land Concert, formerly known as [redacted by Sea Monkey(Δ) Office of Legal Counsel] developed out of a desire to unite all Sea Monkey(Δ)s together in a single concert and festival. No more Gold and Red Team shenanigans: here all would share in their common Sea Monkey(Δ)-dom together. The initial 2017 event was a smashing success, breaking central Baja California records for ukulele imports, mirth output, and, of course, [redacted]. Emboldened by their success, the Sea Monkey(Δ)s now undertake to return to Loreto and top, if possible, the experience of 2017. Will we succeed in our task? Only time will tell, but all indicators point to [redacted].
J O C O A C H E L L A
On Tuesday, March 6, we’ll pull into the town of Loreto (metaphorically; the ship won’t actually enter the town, that would be problematic). Once we do, some cool stuff will happen in Loreto’s town square (Plaza Civica). What cool stuff?
3pm LORETO FOOD FESTIVAL
The Loreto Restaurant Association is planning a food festival in the square. Tickets will be available for purchase on site that day— U.S. CASH ONLY!
More complete details will be available during the week.
5pm J O C O A C H E L L A
Starting at 5pm, we’ll be staging a concert in the town square—large enough for everyone to hang out together and let loose into the night. See the Schedule for the full list of performers.
- Tenders will be running all day and night, though at a reduced schedule during the non-peak hours (during the concert and overnight).
- The municipality will provide transportation to the town square for those with mobility issues.
- This will be a “stand-up” music festival; seating will be provided along the sides and in the back of the town square. There will also be a section near the stage reserved for accessible seating.
- Vegetarian and vegan options have been specially requested for the food festival; but we do not control the menu. Caveat emptor.
NOTE: bringing any food off the Westerdam into Cabo San Lucas or Loreto is STRICTLY PROHIBITED by Mexico law.

2017 Itinerary - Loreto Festival (Jo Co a c h e l l a)
The first big scoop: we’re altering our itinerary for 2017. Specifically, we'll have an extra day in Loreto. Specifically specifically, because on the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, March 7 (i.e. smack-dab in the middle of JoCo Cruise), we'll be holding a music and food festival that we’re calling “Jo Co a c h e l l a”.
We’ve already visited Loreto to do initial planning, and it’s going to be amazing. Not only will Jo Co a c h e l l a be a big event that *everyone* can attend all together, in the same space, but the town of Loreto is the perfect location. Its lovely (and huge) town square and beautiful historic Mission will be an awesome setting for a full slate of music, including Jonathan's big “full band” set. And with the town’s help, we’re working with Loreto's many restaurants and vendors to provide opportunities for everyone to sample the local cuisine. Plans are still under development, but we are already really excited about this event.
We’re also working with Holland America to offer excursions on both days in Loreto (we will of course be staying overnight on the Westerdam) to enjoy the sights and wildlife of the Sea of Cortez, one of the world’s most incredible marine environments. Yep, we’re looking into excursions to see the California Great Whale Migration up close.
In order to provide these experiences, we needed to alter our itinerary; we’ll no longer be stopping in Pichilingue. (Itinerary logistics wouldn't allow for both the Loreto festival and a third port of call, and the prospect of Jo Co a c h e l l a was important and awesome enough to merit the change.)
